Pricing Experiments And Analysis

Nothing beats AB testing your own site... and this is an older source, but there was some interesting points made that others might find helpful as well.

I can tell you from experience that I saw a small but steady bump in ratios when I removed cents completely from join forms (showing $29 instead of $29.00) and I also saw a rise in sales when I started charging $9 for a trial. Consumers have become VERY wary of 'dollar trials' so charging more seems to have actually encouraged greater confidence at the point of sale. I haven't tried 'showing what the price was before the discount' but that will likely be my next test.

The psychology of pricing and improving consumer trust at the point of sale are easy ways to enhance your ratios. Anyone interested in more info can contact me via the info in my sig or via www.EngineFood.com . :2 cents:

I don't know man if a 9 dollar trial is going to beat out a dollar trial overall on all types of traffic at the end of the day, interesting test though

My guess is it wont on all sites... but it is worth testing. However Id be surprised if removing cents doesn't work for most sites. It just feels simpler and more like 'points' than 'actual money' to say $29 instead of $29.00 - which is a great thing at the point of sale.

Given enough "conversions" it's obviously faster and better, but not everyone has the traffic to do proper multivariate testing. Actually, most people on here probably don't.
