What's the most effective way to get traffic to a new blog?

Other than buying traffic of course. It seems non of the big guys wanna trade links with the smaller guys. Which is understandable, so how did you get your sites to were they are today on a low budget?

Today is a different landscape than when we started out in 1999.

Back in the day...Usenet newsgroups, Yahoo groups, banner exchanges, TGPs, guest galleries featured on colleagues sites.

That's a good point. I did make a small amount of money in the past. When I use to blog years ago. A lot of people today say it's to late to leave your mark on the internet and make money. I'd like to prove some of those people wrong. Although it's hard gaining decent traffic on a low budget with a new site when the bigger sites making nice traffic only care to trade with similar sites to theres.

Buy a front row ticket to the Super Bowl. During the game jump onto the field and run around with a big flag with your site on it.

Just start making blogs! I never worried about any of that crap when I started my network...I just started building and Google started bringing the traffic. The only budget you need is for some small hosting and some domains.

Try something different. Make a kick ass blog with killer content different then all the other cooking cutter blogs.

Look in the buy and sell forum. A fair price is really dependent on the site you are posting on. I am pretty particular. I want to make sure it a blog that someone knows what they are doing and is constantly making updates with real content etc. The price is dependant on the Alexa, Traffic, PR etc. If you just want to put it on a blog that has minimal traffic (750k alexa+) maybe 3-5 bucks just for the link mainly. If you can find a site that has a good amount of traffic and ranks. You can pay 10x that much for 1 post. I also personally think this is a better way to build links then to just get links on sidebars as your post will rank naturally. Thread title is important etc.
