Woman sits out office Powerball pool ? and coworkers win. Shit.

Sucks to be this poor bitch. :(

It?s a lottery nightmare: You decide not to kick in for the office Powerball pool ? and your coworkers strike it rich.

It happened at a real estate agency in Florida. Jennifer Maldonado, who started working at the firm two weeks ago and had yet to receive a paycheck, opted out of the $20 buy-in because she was watching her money. She showed up for work Sunday to find the rest of the office screaming, hugging and crying.

They had won $1 million ? about $83,000 apiece before taxes.

Actually they decided to share it with her any way. They said at that firm, when you work there its like you are family so she gets a cut. Its very cool of them and it buys them more than a millions dollars worth of PR.

There was a story similar to this (without the happy ending) a while back. Workers at a small company had a lottery pool and they won a pretty large amount, enough that they were all going to quit their jobs. There was one guy who didn't buy in who then sued claiming that he always bought into the pools and that he intended to buy into this one.

I don't remember how it turned out, but I do remember that the guy who had collected the buy ins had something that showed this guy was asked to buy in and turned it down.

double post.

Wouldn't Socialism involve sharing ones own money as well?

Ask tomorrow at Limbaugh University.

Or just decent people because the one that didn't pitch in had just started and said she would participate after she got her first check.

Spunky 03-31-2013 09:55 PM

Pretty rare that people will let go of a little money because of greed.good for her

lazycash 03-31-2013 10:10 PM

How about the small town last year that won 950 million lottery, except for 1 guy. They forgot to knock on his door when going around asking each citizen to contribute to the lottery pool.

No, actually common sense supports the idea of karma. It's the idea of cause and effect.

And as for science, there's TONS of shit science can't explain. TONS. So I'd say don't close your mind to it just because science hasn't proven it - it's a spiritual matter. Or, go ahead and close your mind. I don't really give a shit either way. (That's bad karma, I know).

Socialism is "a form of envy"?

Dude, Limbaugh University wouldn't even accept you. You'd be the first one too dumb to get in. :1orglaugh

Shit! Well, from the sound of it, he's a good guy, as are his neighbors. Can't help but feel bad for him, though. It wasn't his fault, really.

RomanceNspice 04-01-2013 06:56 PM

Approx. $83,000 each before taxes and approx $2.50 each after taxes! :disgust

Yeah. It was a fucking massive jackpot, but with so many winners, it's not a set-for-life situation.

Their taxes aren't much higher than ours, and they have an excellent health care system including universal coverage with no out-of-pocket expenses (except medication), and free college, and they have extensive clean, comfortable public transportation, so no car is necessary. - so that frees up lots of cash. And their kids probably aren't in schools that are falling apart with a 35:1 student/teacher ratio.

We could probably have that shit, too, but we love our complicated tax system with its loopholes that let some of the largest corporations pay nothing, and let the rich deduct yachts and dancing horses while hiding their money all over the world.
