Im skeptical it seemed to say the sensor is the size of super 16 which would seem to make it a bit overpriced to me compared with cheaper cameras with 24mm or larger sensors. the whole 4K thing is a bit of a red herring...I have a hero 3 that does 4K (admittedly at 15 fps) or 2k at 30 fps for 399.00 just because its 4K doesnt make it the same as a Red 1

16 is still used in television and continues to produce a beautiful picture. So sensor size means pretty much nothing in this case. It will be all about the picture. A 13 stop dynamic range in the portable is a good sign and pretty much puts it past anything currently on the market at that price point. The Panasonic GH2/GH3 in particular will be hurt by this.

And BlackMagics Super35 4k is going to be the real deal. As they proved with their current 2.5k offering, they know what they're doing. Can't really compare it to your Hero. Completely different leagues. This is Black Magick's answer to the Red Scarlet, at half the price. The Hero isn't even on their radar.

Not sure how this thing is going to stack up against the Epic. It obviously won't compete with the Dragon which they recently announced.

Personally, I think it's the Sony FS700, but even that is close to $10k. But it's the only one under that price point that does 480 FPS at 1080.

There are a few that can do high FPS, but at a lower resolution. At this price point, nothing comes close.
