I survived an accident on my HArley doing 50mph on the 101. Happy to be alive.

I know Ive been away awhile. Theres some people I wanna message and say hi to..BUT the saying IT JUST WASNT YOUR TIME was never more meaningful to me than last Teus.
After working the Laker vs Dallas game I was heading ho,me on the 101 near Laurel Canyon. I was in the fast lane next to the divider and there was a car about 20 feet ahead of me in the center lane. All of a sudden there was a tremendous crash from a car in the right lane hitting the car in the center lane. The impact threw the car into my lane and I had no time but to brace for impact. I was doing about 70 at the time I got hit and all I can remember as I was going down was,,THIS IS IT. This is how I die. From what I remember I turned to the left and was thrown from bike.At the same time I remember seeing sparks from the bike laying down sliding away from me. I rolled for a bit then slide for a bit. When I stopped I remember thinking 2 things.. holy shit im still alive and holy shit im still in the middle of the speed lane. I just rolled my body close to the divider and then it got all quiet. Assistance came and all I can recall people saying is how lucky I was, My bike rolled about 100 feet from where I stopped. ALl that happened was a banged up arm and some aches and pains. I feel extremely blessed to be here and I suggest everyone feel lucky to be alive because evry day may be your last here on earth.

Cheers to an enhanced appreciation of life!

Had my NDE this past Xmas day.

It felt damn good waking up in the ER despite all the tubes coming out of me. I look at things very differently nowadays and still am processing that if the ambulance hadn't made it to me so quickly that I could have been dead.

Those EMS guys saved my life without a doubt.

SleazyDream 04-09-2013 09:07 PM

Drive slow. or play ice hockey instead

Rochard 04-10-2013 08:43 AM

A motorcycle accident at that speed... Your very lucky man!

Choopa_Pardo 04-10-2013 08:44 AM

glad you're up and about again. Dumping a bike can be a dangerous ordeal.

Ross 04-10-2013 08:47 AM

Glad to hear this ended with you being alive, Joe. Some years ago my younger brother wanted to take his Bike test and I begged him not to, he had paid for it in full, non refundable, I talked him out of it and gave him back every cent out my own pocket so he wouldn't take the test, he is bad enough in a car, I couldn't imagine him on a Bike.

Far-L 04-10-2013 09:37 AM

Crazy luck buddy, glad to hear you are ok. That is pretty much a miracle at that speed.

dyna mo 04-10-2013 09:38 AM

50 mph in the fast lane on 101? damn, was it like 3am and no traffic, that's hauling ass!

CDSmith 04-10-2013 09:44 AM

You're a survivor. Welcome to the ranks. Yes, I took a couple of road slides back in the 80's, although the worst one was at around 60 km/h which is about 20kms slower than yours. I was cut off in heavy downtown traffic, I got somewhat banged up and earned some road rash on my left leg, had the leather jacket and helmet on. Bike was totalled. And as it happens there was an unmarked police car stopped just ahead of me (about 30 feet past where my bike stopped sliding), they saw everything, called for a tow truck, and an ambo for me.

As it happenedc a carload of hot girls pulled over, all of them saw what happened, all were freaked out, and I ended up getting one of their numbers. Nice blonde in the back seat. She turned out to be a danger addict so I had to let her go but it was fun while it lasted.

Ah the memories.

I don't think I know a single rider from back in those days who didn't earn some road rash. Thankfully most survived, as did you Joe. Welcome back btw.
