Scored a Big Gig

As a lowly Production Assistant on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for three weeks while the shoot a few car chase scenes here in Rochester.

Well, at least I think that's the case...but they are trying to keep things under wraps, so while I know it's what I'm working on they keep referring to it under their working title "London Calling".

Now to find out the significance of the fake title.

Tofu 04-10-2013 08:26 AM

That's awesome, bro!

Grats!

mineistaken 04-10-2013 08:57 AM

congrats

shake 04-10-2013 09:01 AM

Sounds like fun :thumbsup

dyna mo 04-10-2013 09:07 AM

hey, that's nice work.

i've tried to unravel the names of filming locations, i think it may be random. they always have the yellow signs with the movie code name up around here to point crews to where parking is for the set.

AllAboutCams 04-10-2013 09:18 AM

Thats sounds great well done

seeandsee 04-10-2013 09:23 AM

congrats, insert hidden simbol on set and show us later :P

candyflip 04-10-2013 09:27 AM

It's been all over the news and everyone in town knows what it is. It's still kinda funny the lengths they still going to try and keep it quiet.

We get lots of indie productions coming to town, and if you are lucky enough to get paid its usually a small stipend and 3 meals that day. The day rate on this will likely be more than the pay on the last 10 day indie shoot I was involved in. I am lucky enough to be in a position where it doesn't matter either way, but it is nice.

I have already been told that very few people on location will be able to bring their phone with them.

ilnjscb 04-10-2013 09:28 AM

NICE! - that will help your "other" career

dyna mo 04-10-2013 09:35 AM

well, you're going to eat well, i'm always impressed with the food services on these location shoots, one of these days i'm going to try and belly up and see if i can get a plate full!

You're in LA right? You could be doing all sorts of work on location. My buddy works as an extra out there and some days gets paid $250 to stand around all day.

yah, downtown, it's amazing, i literally walk through sets and past them daily. $25k camera rig on 1 side of the sidewalk and the set on the other, crazy ass lights everywhere, all of us pedestrians moseying through. cracks me up.

i've done the extra thing a couple times, i can't stand the standing around, it's literally 98% of the time, maybe 99. now if i had one of those sweet starwaggons with the fancy red carpet like they do....

candyflip 04-10-2013 10:19 AM

PA work is just the opposite. 12 hours, hands on, non stop. I love it.

_Richard_ 04-10-2013 10:20 AM

candyflip 04-10-2013 10:22 AM

You sound as it is easy to be an extra. If it would be so easy all the minimum wage workers would apply.

Well you have to be able to take direction.
so that disqualifies about 90% of the population..lol

also they screen for the look they want.

waltgator 04-10-2013 11:28 AM

It's not difficult if you know where to look. :winkwink:

That alone roots out the garbage.

LOL. Sign up at Central Casting some time in Burbank. They used to hand out flyers at County Jail for job opps...Plenty of garbage makes it through the cracks. Fortunately doesn't last too long. Its not bad working on commercials. Decent pay usually. Worst fuckwit to work for is Spielberg...by a long shot.

I bet the constant influx of new people wanting to hit it big isn't helping matters.

I usually work with film school grads who think they're Spielberg. The real thing can't be worse that that. :1orglaugh

You could have a chance, but sometimes it can take the extras casting agents a few weeks to get you into the system, but you never know. If you look right for something they are working on right then they could send you.

You'll be a star baby.:thumbsup - I worked as an extra on some porn flicks. Also as writer. There was a real reptile booking porn extras. Probably no docs needed. Put a notice up on helmy's board, you might get some bites.

When it was revealed that The Amazing Spider-Man sequel had been given the working title of "London Calling", we speculated that it might have something to do with the storyline in the comic books which saw Gwen Stacy visiting the capital. Well, according to Bleeding Cool, they have now been able to confirm that production of the movie is indeed heading to this side of the pond. "I managed to confirm that London Calling has indeed been planning for some production over here in the UK. How much? No idea. Yet. But it?s not studio stuff ? or at least not just studio stuff. They?re planning to film out and about in the streets." Whether or not this means that Spider-Man will be following Gwen over to London remains to be seen, although her absence certainly leads the door wide open for the introduction of Mary Jane Watson! Be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories in the usual place!
