here is how I do it: I use QuickBooks, update the books a few times a week. every month or so I send the QB file to my accountant. he looks it over, makes suggestions etc... end of the year I have a 30-40 min meeting with the accountant. then file electronically. I also pay quarterly's. make life pretty simple in the tax area :thumbsup

Doing my accounts this weekend to file my UK taxes, then I'll do the American ones after that. No real rush on either one as I've got until June for the American ones and the end of the year for the UK ones. Still, I've got into the habit of doing them in April so I just stick with that.

PSD 04-12-2013 11:31 AM

just filed extension, damn corrections to 1099bs keep coming

Rochard 04-12-2013 11:38 AM

Not sure why this is such a big deal for people.... Filing taxes is a joy because we get to screw the government out of every dime we can. Write off everything you can. Being as I work from home - most of us do - you can write off a portion of your mortgage, power, cell phone....

this is what i need to do. keep the records updated weekly so i don't have hours of dealing with it. i used to be good and organize my receipts once/month into categories in big manila envelopes so they were in the right place at tax time. i've gotten lazy and paying for it now

WarChild 04-12-2013 11:53 AM

That reminds me I'd better take care of my Bermuda taxes right now.

Paperwork required: Nothing.
Taxes to pay: None at all.

At least for me, there's still a lot of "dimes" going to them. I wouldn't have such an issue if I thought our govt. was at least somewhat on the right track with spending and budgeting but know the money I send will just be pissed away. Its like if a friend needed money to feed his kids no problem, but if he needed it to go blow at the titty bar not a chance.

I paid mine two days ago. Figured I'd get it done early :winkwink: :1orglaugh

Imortyl Pussycat 04-12-2013 02:53 PM

Sly 04-12-2013 02:55 PM

I sent mine to my accountant on Wednesday. They called me today with a list of requests. Going to be a fun weekend!

My own damn fault…

What software are you guys using? I want to get my house in order. My spreadsheet method is just retarded. Would be best if it's an online interface of some sort.

They used to have an online version. Do they no longer have that? It was nice because you could have someone at a different location login and check things, etc. That's what I need.
