MetArt is the first Adult Network to accept Bitcoins - Affiliates Cash In (thanks to Frank)

Bitcoins are the hottest topic in digital currency and both internet surfers and online service and product providers are intrigued at their potential purchasing power. There are clear benefits to accepting payments via Bitcoins: subscribers can join privately using their email address, no financial information is required and there is no risk of identity theft. Customers can pay with Bitcoins without worrying about rebills and there is no restriction by country - Bitcoins can be used globally.

MetArt is the first adult network to offer BitCoins as a method of payment, with a 50% off the normal subscription price as incentive to users to try Bitcoin payment right away.

"Bitcoins are a high demand option for both consumers and affiliates," said Jill Taylor, Vice President of Marketing for the MetArt Network. "We are able to accept Bitcoin payments AND track and pay affiliates for these sales. It opens up a new world of consumers for our affiliates and partners to tap into and allows our customers an additional payment option that many feel more comfortable utilizing than their debit or credit cards."

Positive feedback from adult consumers, affiliates, and partners abound.

"As an affiliate, I love the idea of the MetArt Network accepting Bitcoins from customers," said an anonymous MetArtMoney affiliate. "Everyone talks about tube sites and file sharing, and there is no doubt that those things have hurt our industry. But I personally think credit card bangers and shady join forms have hurt it more. Allowing surfers to pay in Bitcoin removes the very real fear that their $5 trial is going to end up costing them $500. They also don't have to worry about getting stuckin a difficult-to-cancel rebill scenario. They just pay and enjoy their membership. I think all that will result in increased conversions. Up until now, outside of disposable, pre-paid cards, there have not been payment options that allay their concerns."

There is undoubtedly a market for bitcoin sales, created by demand from the consumer, and online sellers are listening to their customers needs.

Petra from FreeOnes states, "We're looking forward to being able to offer our traffic the option to pay in bitcoins because we know that anonymity is important."

While there is much controversy over Bitcoin value and the future of BitCoin regulation, the fact is that Bitcoins are a means of currency accepted by a growing population of online shoppers.

A hot thread on Reddit confirms the high demand of Bitcoins as a payment option, with posters stating, "Never had a subscription for this before, will try now..." and "Woah, that's actually pretty surprising and cool."

The MetArt Network is striving to meet the needs of their customer base by adding Bitcoin as an alternative payment option.

"Providing various payment options to consumers is something all ecommerce driven businesses strive to do," said Taylor. "Offering BitCoins as a payment choice allows our customers more ability to choose the payment form that suits them best."

MetArt affiliates and partners should contact [email protected] with questions or requests for additional information.

Thanks! Reddit is a long term supporter of our network and the user feedback there is honest and valuable - we listen to it and give the customers what they want.

CTO of MetArt here. If anyone has any questions on the tech implementation or affiliate tracking issues, I'm glad to answer.

Its only been a few days so we're still riding the wave of PR. Not sure what it will settle down to in terms of sales. We're trying to educate at the same time by linking to weusecoins.com right on our join forms.

How do you plan on verifying the age of individuals paying through your bitcoin method when it's anonymous and not age restricted?

Currently using a checkbox as advised by our counsel. Of course this is the most controversial point regarding bitcoin acceptance in the adult space and not being a lawyer or anything like it, I can't say specifically whether this will hold water or not.

It's definitely something that I find curious. The attention from being one of the first adult sponsors to accept bitcoins and the positive reception from fans is great. Although, that attention could backfire by also drawing the gaze of authorities who probably already hate bitcoin and the adult industry.

Anyway, just curious :)

MetArt is one of the very few adult networks left that does not look like run from a bedroom or as a side hobby while doing really another main job :)

Credit Cards are not a valid form of age verification too, anyway.

Now I expect a number of "bitcoin"+"porn/sex/nude" keyworded sites to be developed? Searching for that, it does not find much yet in google... a few blogs not updated since 2011 or 2012 and such.

Googleing, I found it seems the first adult site to support bitcoins was classycams:
https://twitter.com/classycams
"18 Feb 2013: We just added a pay with Bitcoins option to all SNR Productions sites"

I also found a bitcoins-only cam site, but zero viewers/models: http://cam4btc.com/
(well, zero viewers and models it is for all the new cam sites in general, no matter they accept credit cards... it make more sense that existing sites add bitcoins, than open a new bitcoins only site).

Found some freelance cam guy:
http://forbitcoin.com/Bitcoin/3445/p...bcam-for-1-BTC
"jimmy0252: I will perform any sex act you wish on webcam for 1 BTC"

And some freelance pirate:
http://forbitcoin.com/Bitcoin/1530/g...azzer-accounts
"I will give you brazzer accounts for 0.10 BTC"
I assume he buy stolen cards with bitcoins at 0.5 BTC or less, do brazzer accounts with that, then resell the accounts for twice the bitcoins.

Do you need to be 18 or older to buy a prepaid Visa or Mastercard debit card? Don't most adult sites accept these debit cards?

Also, what verification is necessary to view almost ANY smut imaginable, on ANY tube site in 2013?

Just playing devil's advocate, not arguing...

I see your point, not arguing either, just clarifying:

We strictly adhere to policy and believe that adult content is meant for adults only. The fact that bitcoins offer anonymity for customers is a huge reason for their appeal. We are aware of this and we require all bitcoin customers to verify they are of legal age in the same manner that they must do so for credit card, debit card or check purchases. Anyone who does not verify they are over the age of 18 is directed away from the site.

this has been happening for past two years with various exchanges. particularly in this case i would guess bitfloor doesn't have money services business license to begin with which is required for US based exchanges

Loading a wallet is still certainly a hassle and a difficulty that has to be solved. Bitfloor, by accepting credit cards, probably sealed their own fate on chargebacks.

Not to mention they don't have to worry about having their credit cards banged (of course I know you guys don't do that but there's other companies that do and this will assure some of those customers because it can't happen with Bitcoins).

I think it's pretty amazing you guys are accepting bitcoins and it definitely separates Metart from the rest and shows that Metart is keeping up with the times!

SexyCreativity 04-19-2013 05:36 AM

This is great! We have talked about implementing this as well. Selena, you guys should think about writing a series of blog posts on your experience using bitcoins. Think it would be interesting to read. If you do make sure you post a thread on here. :)

BFT3K 04-20-2013 12:34 PM

Hey Selena,

Has anyone actually joined via bitcoins since you have implemented this payment option?

Does it seem worthwhile?

Thanks..
