41 year old Robert Troy Coldwell of West Kelowna, British Columbia was one of those frustrated individuals. He had reportedly entered the emergency room at 8pm complaining of symptoms resembling a heart attack.

After not being attended to for 45 minutes, he left the emergency department and returned later that night at 11pm. At this point he began to become unruly and threatened to drive his vehicle through the emergency room doors if he did not receive medical attention. He was then told by the staff to calm down or they would have to contact the police. He was not seen by a physician so he left the emergency room untreated for a second time that night.

At this point he followed through with his promise by driving his 1987 Chevy Blazer through the ER double doors and into its hallway. Luckily, nobody within the ER department was injured. Police officers arrived a short while later and arrested the man who was still behind the wheel of his vehicle. Even after all the events that unfolded, it is still uncleaer if he was seen by a doctor?"

Yea people snap, either way it's not perfect.nobodies health care is perfect.The natives of Canada are allowed to slaughter seal as well as whatever they want,just the way it is.Seals eat the fish and are over populated.Humans are carnivorous and doesn't matter if it's either beef or seal meat

putting seal pictures in every post about canada makes you look stupid and uninformed. the only people allowed to hunt are natives (what you might call ingines) , most specifically inuits and while they are canadian citizens they have special rights allowing them to cross the border freely to travel, work, etc making them more "north american's" than anything else.

Emergency rooms are pretty damn good and recognizing who requires medical help immediately and who can wait. This doorknob obviously wasn't sick, and most likely was known by hospital staff to be a hypochondriac as well.

If you find yourself waiting for long periods of time in an ER, it's probably because you don't need to be there in the first place.

My dad got sick a couple months ago, I took him up the the ER. He was in really bad shape and guess what, they took him in right away. No waits. If you are stupid enough to go to the ER with a cold you should wait.

Emergency room wait times are a product or their accessibility. Everyone here who has the sniffles goes to see a doctor. Part of the issue is that not enough people have a family doctor and not enough people are willing to go to a clinic. I have two young daughters, so I must admit that I am likely one of the guys who has taken them to emerg when I likely should not have and because of it have suffered the consequences. I have taken my oldest (she was 3 at the time) to a completely packed emergency room with a temperature of almost 105, the time between walking in and seeing a doctor was 5 minutes. I have taken her when she had a cold (because she sounded bad and there really isn't anything you can give them at a young age) and sat there all night long when it seemed like there were no other patients there.

It's not first come first serve, you go to triage and they decide where you fit on the list based on two things; 1) how bad are the symptoms and what ailment do they resemble, 2) how much pain does the person appear to be in.

they ask you how much pain you are in, but I think they put more weight on how much pain they think you are in, because people lie, they cut their finger and say on a scale of 1 to 10, their pain is a 12.5!

like has been said, it is not perfect, but neither is allowing the rich to get anything they want immediately while everyone else has no chance.

If this guy was truly having a heart attack, he should have done the smart thing and called an ambulance, they take you right in to a doctor when you do that.

I'm not Canadian, but I lived there for several years. We lived in several provinces and from what I have seen, healthcare is different in different provinces. On Vancouver Island, no wait when my daughter had the chicken pox. Vancouver (North), we waited a long time (3 hours) when my wife broke her hand. Northern Ontario no wait. I assume it's a population thing. :2 cents:

Such crap, when my father went in having a heart attack he was seen right away... My mother had cancer and got super treatment... my son recently had surgery and the experience with the doctors / hospital was incredible. The only thing we paid for was TV access which is a 3rd party that handled it.

If you go into the emergency with a broken finger you'll wait, they prioritize!

Our hospitals are old but that's being taken care of now with two new massive ones being built.

Yep. I have had longer waits for minor things but that's expected when emergency rooms are full and a broken bone isn't a priority. Not bleeding or having trouble breathing, have a seat and wait your turn!

Couple of thoughts.

One, if the guy was in good enough shape to freak out that much he was probably in good enough shape to go to a walk-in clinic (of which we have plenty) and leave the ER to the more critically ill people.

Two; Canadian ER's treat thousands of patients daily and in an on-average timely manner. (I know, I've been to my share of them and have worked in them as well) But have just ONE idiot freak out and forget all the good that was done, it automatically means our system sucks.

Three; at least here this idiot (and everyone else who doesn't freak out and gets treated) leaves with no bill of any kind. No emptying your savings, no having to take out a second mortgage, no begging on GFY for donations to help pay your ER bill. Ahh Canada.

Four; I say fuck you all, I don't apologize for Celine, Bryan Adams, Alanis or Bieber. Okay maybe Bieber, but the rest I make no apology for.

My elderly mother has needed more and more care over the past 5 years. Despite not requiring emergency care, I had no choice but to take her to emergency anyway and wait, one time as long as 10 hours (Arrived at 5pm, finally saw doctor at 3am).

The Canadian Medicare system is good for the most part. We get all our care, x-rays and MRI's, surgeries and hospital care for free, and drugs cheap for the most part. But the care offered in at least 1 hospital is barely adequate. Overcrowded, dirty, and severe lack of quality "wellness" care.

Medicare can work, but some Hospitals are under funded for sure.

Our health care is awesome compared to Americas, trust me, what there average citizen gets,w e get 10 fold better. Ive heard of VA wait times that are just border line cruel.
