I dont understand background checks are killing the second amendment but Republicans wanting to throw out an american citizen's constitutional rights is no big deal.

I think he should be the keynote speaker at the next AVN.

tony286 04-23-2013 06:18 AM

Republicans are like 5 year old children. They have no grasp on anything out side their tiny little worlds nor do they care. They only think about what is good for them and who gives a shit about anyone else or how their actions affect the country as a whole, much less the world.

They are like spoiled little brats.

mikesouth 04-23-2013 10:10 AM

Anyone who thinks the Dalai Lama wouldn't say that doesn't know his history

You see Tibet has been in conflict with China for many years over Tibet's sovereignty. Tibetans know what it means to need guns to overthrow a tyranny

SuckOnThis 04-23-2013 10:47 AM

Marion, what good is a gun going to do you once you're in hell?

He needs to actually be a scammer or criminal first, then he can be a candidate to be speaker.

mikesinner 04-23-2013 11:05 AM

He's a religious leader, not an intellectual. There is a difference. Studying philosophy and theology doesn't make you an authority on anything.

Unless you consider bullshit an intellectual pursuit.

TheSquealer 04-23-2013 11:09 AM

He comes from 1000's year old line of people who have a history of being attacked, fighting, training to fight and training to defend themselves. Why isn't it perfectly rational and logical for him to say "when attacked, its ok to attack back"?

TheFootMan5 04-23-2013 11:14 AM

How come the government can have all the guns in the world?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 04-23-2013 12:33 PM

Leave it to Sally Rand (Silly Rant) to manipulate and distort the central message and teachings of the Dalai Lama. :disgust

His entire statement included, if someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun, not at the head, where a fatal wound might result, but at some other body part, such as a leg.

To suggest that the Dalai Lama is a gun toting supporter of the NRA, or narrow-minded crackpots like Marion is ridiculous, and an insult to his overall message of peace and non-violence.

In the struggle of his own Tibetan people against China, the Dalai Lama has steadfastly advocated nonviolence.

If you want to have a better understanding of the message of the Dalai Lama, then read his essay titled, A Human Approach to World Peace.

A few other Dalai Lama quotes:

Whens the last time the dalai lama was in his own country?

We already have background checks, I guess someone doesn't think they work, so we need new ones.

Before someone brings up Gandhi

Gandhi references India?s Arms Act of 1878, which gave Europeans in India the right to carry firearms but prevented Indians from doing so, unless they were granted a license by the British colonial government. The full text of what he wrote is: ?Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest. If we want the Arms Act to be repealed, if we want to learn the use of arms, here is a golden opportunity. If the middle classes render voluntary help to Government in the hour of its trial, distrust will disappear, and the ban on possessing arms will be withdrawn.?

The Dali Lama left Tibet in 1959, and formed a government in exile in India (although a separate administrative body has taken over most of the duties), and while he stated as recently as last week that he still expects to return to Tibet in his lifetime, I am not so sure about that given his age of 77.

There is a good deal of speculation as to whether the institution of the Dali Lama will continue upon the death of Thubten Gyatso (the current Dali Lama):

Quote:

In a 2004 interview with Time, the current Dalai Lama stated:

The institution of the Dalai Lama, and whether it should continue or not, is up to the Tibetan people. If they feel it is not relevant, then it will cease and there will be no 15th Dalai Lama. But if I die today I think they will want another Dalai Lama. The purpose of reincarnation is to fulfill the previous [incarnation's] life task.

My life is outside Tibet, therefore my reincarnation will logically be found outside. But then, the next question: Will the Chinese accept this or not? China will not accept. The Chinese government most probably will appoint another Dalai Lama, like it did with the Panchen Lama. Then there will be two Dalai Lamas: one, the Dalai Lama of the Tibetan heart, and one that is officially appointed.
Quote:

On September 24th, 2011, the Dalai Lama issued the following statement concerning his reincarnation:

When I am about ninety I will consult the high Lamas of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the Tibetan public, and other concerned people who follow Tibetan Buddhism, and re-evaluate whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue or not. On that basis we will take a decision.

If it is decided that the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama should continue and there is a need for the Fifteenth Dalai Lama to be recognized, responsibility for doing so will primarily rest on the concerned officers of the Dalai Lama?s Gaden Phodrang Trust. They should consult the various heads of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions and the reliable oath-bound Dharma Protectors who are linked inseparably to the lineage of the Dalai Lamas.

They should seek advice and direction from these concerned beings and carry out the procedures of search and recognition in accordance with past tradition. I shall leave clear written instructions about this. Bear in mind that, apart from the reincarnation recognized through such legitimate methods, no recognition or acceptance should be given to a candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including those in the People?s Republic of China.
Although I am an atheist myself, I am married to a Buddhist, and I generally find a lot in common with Buddhist philosophy. I consider the current Dali Lama to be a good person that has done much to further peace and understanding in the world, despite having been in exile for over 50 years (the Dali Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989).
