TGIF music thread

Yay, Friday!

Friday mornings I need music to help me get my blood flowing to my brain. I woke up in a White Stripes mood so they have been sponsoring my morning.

What music is bouncing around your head?

Tofu 04-26-2013 09:58 AM

Hold your chonies, chicken. I'm actually listening to
some gangsta shit, right now, but Steely Dan is always appropriate.

I believe it. :) It has been in and out of my head for a few days.

Jack White has been in my head a lot lately ever since I had to explain to my dad who Jack was the other day when he decided to go all old man and get involved in a Facebook thread.

Pet Shop Boys transcend sexuality even if they are named after gerbil abuse.

They have a new album out in the next couple weeks.

This song is a masterpiece:

The reason for my recent Jack White kick is that I was at a Franz Ferdinand gig in LA last week and I noticed that watching in the wings was Jack White and Meg. I was the first person around my area to notice and when I pointed it out to my friend all the people around us started whispering. Then, as a group started to do the Seven Nation Army riff. That is how you know you have made a true impact when at somebody else's gig the audience can instantly recant your music.

Nice i like the early FF music not really listen to anything new you would think he would get a backstage pass.

Very gay and never hid it.

A pet shop boy is a guy who puts gerbils up his bum.

It was a great gig. I am loving being able to see bands like that in smaller venues here than I would have been able to see them in back home.

They have a new album coming out and the material sounds pretty good from what I have heard.

Jack and Meg were backstage standing on a catwalk type thing. I think I was the only one around me short enough to see under the curtain line.

Guess, I owe Franz a play. My fave of theirs..they opened with it which made me a happy music geek.

Any band from the 80's was seen as a bit 'gay' - We all wore makeup and had big hair back then...

I went to school with boys that would get upset because they didn't fancy men.....

It was a strange but interesting time.....

DaveMG 04-26-2013 11:23 AM

great song choice for this friday

i'm with you! i grew up then also, graduated high school in 1982, i saw duran duran live 5x, dm, inxs 1st tour, lived that new wave dance scene. just saying i don't recall pet shop boys never hit me as gay as much as like the communards or bronski beat. in fact, i remember it all as very non-gay even though most all the clubs that played that music were gay clubs, maybe it was all very gay and i just decided that didn't matter and that's why i don't recall the gayness of it. i know 1 thing, getting girls at those gay clubs on alt music nights was a breeze.

Nice and bonus for it being a Peel session. That couldn't be too long before he passed.

I will fully admit to rather passively aggressively playing this one whenever my ex-husband would get annoyingly drunk (so every week).
