Don't you hate it when...

you buy a CD on faith because of one tune that you heard that kicks ass, and then the rest of the CD is complete shit

they should put a warning label on those....
"Warning: The bulk of this disc sucks ass."

[Labret] 02-24-2003 11:45 AM

Buy cd's?

wtf? :eek7

dapproid 02-24-2003 11:48 AM

Ever heard of MP3...

I haven't actually bought a CD since 1996. But that is mostly because CD's are so expensive anyway.

hybrid 02-24-2003 11:48 AM

happened to me with Slipknot - IOWA and Mudvayne's first CD. Although their second one, The End Of All Things To Come fucking rocks.

What CD was it?

dapproid 02-24-2003 11:49 AM

Oh wait.. I actually bought The Marshall Mathers LP a couple of years ago. Lots of good tracks.

Amputate Your Head 02-24-2003 11:49 AM

sure... I got lots of mp3s.... but I still buy discs too...

you guys don't ever buy ANY cd's anymore?

Only when I go to the shows and buy direct from the band so I know they get the money. But 90% of the time I already had their releases on mp3.

Well I do, I always used to download all my music, but lately I buy some more originals instead of blank ones :thumbsup

Q.

Plat 02-24-2003 11:53 AM

i normally sample cd's on cdnow.com first before i go to the next step :winkwink:

Amputate Your Head 02-24-2003 11:53 AM

it's more convenient to just buy a cd rather than collect a bunch of mp3s and organize them into a playlist, burn a disc.... plus, the disc quality is much better than a burned disc, in terms of durability. A burned disc gets wrecked really easy.

Thumbelina 02-24-2003 11:56 AM

I bought the Tatu CD for you AMP ........

since I know that it is what you truly crave in your hours of

solitude and total calm.

I know too that you are a closet lesbian.

Just rare classical recordings. With an MP3 player + file sharing there's no reason to buy anything else.

Not when you get drunk and wake up the next day to dozens of unorganized cd's out of their case all over the living room. When you own 1500 discs it gets really hairy.

mp3s make things better :)

Fletch XXX 02-24-2003 12:02 PM

Labret you want a rip of I,Luciferi?

Noticed it wasnt on the box.

Have some things to rip for ya, but wanted to ease to upping time.

I buy discs all the time.

Mostly from shows though, and used cd stores so either way the record industry doesnt really have anything to do with the music I buy.

I buy discs direct from bands I go to see etc. Or used CD stores, we have the best used cd stores. Heavy Rotation, Rockaway Records, Second SPin etc,... legendary cd stores.

But, I also rip many of my discs simply because as you mentioned, the 5 songs you want to hear, you have to deal with the disc and not scratching it etyc.

So I burn my favorite tracks and 120 gig external drives are cheap, so get a drive and put all your songs on it.

Back it up, burn it whatever, but have the kick ass digital library to skim through instead of going through discs.

I have well over 2k of bought discs and I still rip em to mp3 fo ease of use and to discard the songs I dont want to hear.

Sure. I had it at one time, but I think I listened to it once and deleted it. I dont think I have anything over IV. I am so tainted by I and II that it is hard for me to accept anything else.

wethoney 02-24-2003 12:16 PM

Why don't you just buy the "single"

they still make those?

Most of the time, I get stuff from groups that I have other stuff from, or I'm reasonably sure the rest will be good too.... but every once in a while, I take a chance on something new and end up hating the whole disc.

Fletch XXX 02-24-2003 12:23 PM

Heres some of mine.

It is.

The Hollywood store is the baby of the 3.

I go to Second Spin a lot, A small store on Ventura Blvd called Heavy Rotation, and Rockaway Records out in LA. Sometimes a small store in Pasadena called 'PooBahs' and another called Aarons Records N Tapes.

Thats the hot spots.

i make my rounds.

Problem is the websites online dont have nearly the volume of shit they have.

How could it? Some kid walks in to sell his discs, and they gonna run to add it online? Its sold before it gets online.

But at least you can sample the wares before you lay down the $9.99-$15.99

421Fill 02-24-2003 12:48 PM

Yeah, I hate it when that shit happens... It happens alot with the shit you hear on the radio, it's like they hired a good producer just for the single and left the rest of the album to the band to mix and master, etc. Fucking weird.

I'm prolly one of the few people that don't use P2P proggies and download MP3s... mostly because computer speakers suck ass! My home system is an old one from the 70's and it has such a warm tone that anything other than it will chill my spine.

exactly... I never understood the reasoning behind that.... why make one good tune and the leave the rest as crap?
