Plan to block porn sites sparks outrage

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/interne....ap/index.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A pioneering strategy to stem online child pornography is threatening Internet stability because it blocks Web surfers visiting innocent sites located in the same virtual neighborhoods as those peddling illegal porn, a prominent civil liberties group says.

Sounds like the same think Spam groups do. Hmmmm. May make main stream hosters and ISP's think twice about Adult work.

The issue is that they're blocking by IP and not domain so any other domain that shares that IP is blocked too. Sucks for alot of virtual and free hosting.

Then again any paid host that would host a KP site deserves trouble. Free hosts however can't really help it. They should definetly get warning first.

illegal porn would be beastiality, cp, rape, etc. not all porn is illegal in kansas, i believe its 'obscene' porn, whatever that means. basic hardcore, i don't believe, doesn't fall into the obscene category.

No, that was a mis-quoted law. The law in question still exists in many states. It's basically a "general obscenity" law that is rarely enforcable anymore. The article you read was probably the one about the CP idiot who got arrested. To the best of my knowledge CP is illegal everywhere in the US. I have been peddling 100% legal porn for a long time in Kansas and have never had any trouble with the law.

This wreaks of trouble.

Regular porn sites WILL be affected by this.

I guess my point is that no matter what is on the IP block, legit porn, animal porn, or what some community decides what is illegal, will have the same effect as some of the spam blocking houses do. Scary
