Crazy weird. I have never once had that happen via GoDaddy.

If your talking about places to register a brand new domain name, I'd recommend NameSilo. $8.99 to register .com domains with free WHOIS privacy for life.

If your talking about places to buy an already registered domain name there's Sedo and HuntingMoon.

No offense, but why would you need to "check around other places" on an available domain?

In general, always a good idea to buy a domain immediately when you see it available. I can tell you GoDaddy does not "frontrun" - the only registrar that was ever shown to frontrun was Network Solutions and they put a stop to it once it was found out.

helterskelter808 05-08-2013 08:47 PM

Doesn't sound like it was an available domain.

from my experience - godaddy is the best one to get "second-hand" domains from...

it has happened to me as well - very occasionally (when you look for a domain for a very long time) your brain fools you and instead of "available now from godaddy auctions" you see "available now" :)

$500 isn't bad at all for a great domain.

If it isn't great - look for another one :)

Agreed...particularly, with a 3 second google search for GoDaddy discount codes you can find a $2.49 or even a .99 code.

madtwin 05-09-2013 03:40 AM

NameSilo all the way :2 cents:

.com $8.99
.net $7.49
.org $8.59

+ Free WHOIS privacy for life

NameSilo COUPON Code: gfy
$1.00 discount (registration/transfer) :pimp

i beg to differ, there is absolutely no doubt.
actually i was looking at all versions or the url com/net and privacy.
yes stupid of me not to just buy it at that moment, but no doubt when i returned 10 mins later it was now on the auction block... until mid june.

Great - if you have no doubt, go to the news media. They'd eat this up alive. No one's ever proven GoDaddy has done frontrunning, so you can be the one that breaks the story.

Agreed.

It was also said the Domaintools.com registered domains after you did a whois there. I never experienced it though.

Godaddy did this to me atleast a couple times.

I checked at godaddy if a domain was registered and it was not. So I proceed to find a coupon. Max 2 minutes, domain was registered at godaddy.

Also when I checked whois at godaddy and the domain was unregistered so I go ahead and register it but next thing I know it says registered at godaddy

Something fishy over there. From now on I don't check for domains or whois at godaddy.
