hey,

matt cutts has confirmed via his twitter account that they are going to update google penguin in the next few weeks.

this will be a big update, I have a feeling lots of sites will be wiped from Google.

I don't actually think that is true, some will rise but most of the traffic will go to the big brand sites as Google loves brands so lots of sites will loose traffic and only a few sites will gain that traffic.

Google is almost useless currently as it is spammed with results by the big tubes. If i want to search for a video i will do that directly on youtube or the porn variations, there's no need to spam google with it. I hope they balance the output of tubes vs normal websites a little better. It's useless to get 20 pages of youtube results for a search term.

Every time someone drops in rank, someone else raises... exactly as many people will get a better rank as will drop in rank.

Bing or Yahoo are what I use now. Google is done for quality SERPs.

But what if 100 people lose their serp and get replaced by 100 results for 1 site?

Google owns Youtube.

But I think G tweaked their algorithm to more heavily favor low bounce rate and social signals which (conspiracy theory alert) benefits Youtube. And Youtube is now beginning to charge a nominal amount for some of their channels in addition to ad monetization (total conspiracy!).

But (reality alert) I think Google is just playing traffic director via their algo for what they perceive surfers want to see more than what they do not. Google should know the CTR on search results I assume. And if they see a higher CTR on search results where spammy tubes are riding high on the search results vs. pre-Penguin CTR on searches which dredged up results including "normal websites" or blogs, then they will continue to maintain their algo which favors tube results. I think this is just an illustration of what the majority of adult surfers want to see... free videos.

I don't think the text on the page matters as much as it used to. Tumblr evidences this since many Tumblrs place high on adult searches without the benefit of being tubes. What matters now in addition to bounce rate and social signals IMO seems to be the backlinks to the pages and how the pages are titled in addition to the bounce rate and social aspect.

Nope, your sites drop and the brands that pay them or their own sites (Youtube) rise.

This isn't a conspiracy, this is exactly what's been going on for over a year now.

Google ranks sites on surfer behavior. Surfers want everything for free and full length. So the sites with the most free long porn are at the top
