If this is about running OSX, try installing a normal OS (Windows or Ubuntu) on your core 2, and then install Virtualbox, then read this (or read this first):

iDeneb Lite 1.6 is the version I installed on Virtualbox years ago, but I can't remember if those instructions are the ones I used. I just searched for how to install iDeneb on virtualbox. If you do the same you can find a bunch of other results, but that link may be enough to help you.

Socket 775 is older tech, a few generations old I think...Intel doesn't make I3's in a 775. I3's come in 1155 or 1156.

That's true. Intel® Core? i3 Desktop Processor uses either an LGA1155 socket or a LGA1156 socket.
