I read both of the boards of directors agreed to it in another article. But yeah, banning porn and adult is a concern to anyone in adult using Tumblrs to drive traffic, promote, etc. Remember when Yahoo went on a purge of adult Yahoo Groups? I doubt the Yahoo BoD or the new CEO want the Yahoo brand associated with porno.

Tumblr hasn't generated huge profits since its inception, despite its vast popularity. I would foresee ads coming to Tumblr since that's Yahoo modus operandi ads ads ads ad nauseum. And that might alienate users since one of the reasons users flocked to Tumblr was its social platform sans ads & sans constricting rules on adult content.

Ever since twan shut down is blog networks I've been using tumblr to build a huge porn network of websites.

Most likely Yahoo will want to ban porn and place their shitty Yahoo ads on it.

Anyway, porn is synonymous with Tumblr. Maybe they'll just enforce that NSFW blogs actually be labelled NSFW (as the feature has already long existed) and they won't put mainstream (or maybe any) ads on them. Marketers might be quickly cleared out, but it is not uncommon for the average Tumblr user to reblog an inspirational quote, a cityscape, another quote, more SFW pictures and then random porn. How would they address that?

That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the news yesterday.

I don't think stuffing a few ads in a tumblr feed will be difficult at all. It's probably by far the easiest social network to do it with since so many of the posts on the dashboard are a) graphics and b) random.

They're gonna do with Tumblr what Conde Nast did with Reddit. They own it, but it's totally independent from the parent company.
