Why Do You Work In Porn?
Everyone has their own differant reasons for working in Adult. For me? It's:
* Freedom * (still) decent money * Girls, girls, girls! * The harder I work the more my own efforts pay off. * Learning new skillz * A sense of accomplishment every time I make a sale, knowing that I started with $0 and nothing. * GFY - yes because I can post threads like this!! What are your reasons for being in the Adult game? :) |
I wanted to work for a company that was challenging and rewarding. Nothing feels better than seeing your work convert to $$$
Was pretty hesitant about joining the adult industry, but there are a bunch of great people here and I couldn't be happier! https://youtube.com/watch?v=RubBzkZzpUA |
what other industry can you battle parasites, middle men, pseudo bankers, and still watch a join form time out on cue after having record sales day the day before
|
bored of mainstream...enjoy women making me money for doing slutty things...want to live like hugh hefner...

I had a choice?

* Access to Women
* Financial Freedom * Flexible Hours * Answer to Noone. Find a job you 'love' and you'll never 'work' a day in your life. :2 cents: |

No matter what happens, there's always people out there who will pay for porn.
|
I do it for the join form submissions.

Its all I have ever known. My father used to sell and shoot 'Stag Loops' on a cini camera. I kinda grew up around porn, and my first 'pocket money' job was putting blank tapes in a bank of about 40 video machines, and hitting record and then play on the master...
I was just 'hitting buttons' I never saw the tapes as a kid, but I was always around the porn scene in one way or another, so once I was old enough, I began to shoot my own stuff... When the web came along, I first started using it to advertise VHS via mail order... Then I realised the money that could be made online, and never looked back. I'm 44 now - 97% retired, and set for life... I heart porn ! :upsidedow |
It used to be money and freedom but since sales suck lately now it's just the freedom.

"Ahh CS, growing up in the shadow of your Daddy's porn biz explains everything!!" BUT my business acumen (such as it is) tells me to say this: "Wow CS, 44 and 'set for life' is truly impressive! My dream would one day to have an off-GFY (somehow) conversation with you where you could give me some insights into this insane online porn biz since obviously I need it AND I'm one of those 'rare few' who would actualy act upon your advice." :) :) :) |
I was never in it for the girls. Girlfriends are easy enough to find.
I'm here for the MONEY. Period. That and being able to work from home. |
Only because lot of peoples looking for porn one net.

It was the easiest way to make money from many different sources when I needed to make money..
I was robbed 3 times in 2 weeks and found myself stuck in the shittiest possible apartment on a huge college campus and no money or food, so on move out day I found 3 really old computers in an alley that I got to work with a version of XP that was locked, so I had to CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to run iexplore.exe to work for 45 minutes until it restarted with no warning from a wireless connection from a donut shop at 0.4ish kbps.. Turns out that porn paysite PPS was the easiest way for me and I could cash those checks at local head shops since my credit was fucked up. Now I have a house in a nice suburb and working on porn is too fun to quit. :) |
I like the posters on this thread, is all full of positivism, i really can say i didnt choose the porn life the porn life chose me lool, i started working at a call center for a dating site back in 2003 and im still in the business, long live rock n roll ! and porn!

Would have to agree with all of the above posts. Would love to add in the conferences/parties but due to the US hating me back in 2002 and shipping me back to Canada over my birthday, I've missed out on the Vegas/Phoenix shows this year (and the naked dodgeball... of all the things to miss). Looking forward to Montreal later this year so I can add them to the list. There's no US border to stop me on that one! :thumbsup

Started out for fun, the girls and some extra money. Quickly discovered it was easy money for little work so left full time job to do this full time (1-20 hrs a week back then). Discovered the conventions and parties.. BONUS. Tripped and fell into a job with Adult.com (Thanks Spannow) which became a job with playboy so I decided to make a career out of it. 10+ yrs later, I'm still here, working had and having fun. Still learning new things daily.
Biggest of all is the freedom to be my own boss. Also, by working from home, it cuts down on a lot of other expenses for me such as daycare for my child, transportation/gas on commuting plus the tax breaks on several of my bills (internet, phone, electric etc..) |

Sure, I could still turn £50 (That I paid a girl for a vid) into £3000 within a month, without even breaking a sweat, but thats basically all explained in my sig... Without going all 'Markham' on you, the biz (AS I KNEW IT) is pretty much over :( OK, so cams are here now, and dating and stuff, but I dont know fuck all about making money that way. Likewise, I dont use facebook, have twitter, use tumblr / reddit / etc... I am a dinosaur ! I used to shoot a video for XX amount, and turn it into XXXX over and over again... Rinse and repeat etc. The REAL money was before online came about, and then a good boost up until about 2004... Then it all went slowly downhill, until it fell off the cliff with the tubes :( So short of inventing a time machine - Theres very little I an offer regarding the net in 2013... Sorry :) |
Freedom to travel and work on the move was the only attraction, it was supposed to be short term, that was 6 years ago, now i enjoy it too

You live in the same state as that Shoebox guy :upsidedow I live in a nice suburb too, but my house while nice, is ideal for only one or two people. Perfect for work and sleep quarters. I do a lot of freelance work for small businesses along with other things I'm turning into bigger projects. Porn, my affiliate commissions as of now are only a small portion of my income. I think this is already and will become an even better thread. |

I live in an old suburb of Columbus, which is where my nic comes from, and have no idea where Van Wert is.. lol. I've met an unusually high amount of webmasters from Ohio, though, which is weird. |
Being a porn affiliate in the late 90s meant being part of a almost magical time. I was a broke college student at the time and I stumbled across the adult webmaster thing. I gave it a go and put up a site with an AVS company. They declined the site but something like a month later they sent me $60 or $80 something as a check for the sales I made in the couple hours that the site was taking sales.
In the mean time I opened another site with a different AVS and made over $1000 in the first month. Within three months I went from being an absolutely broke college student to having more disposable income than my parents. Within a year my server and advertising costs alone were almost double their mortgage. It was a great time. The industry was filled with good middle class people too. Sponsors didn't tend to be as scummy and even the boards were more affiliate focused and friendly. People would actually help one another and look out for each other more back then. It wasn't just a bunch of platitudes and Bro and rep bullshit where everyone is kissing ass in desperation. Then no one was desperate. If you kissed scumbag ass back then people would laugh at you and call you on it. I still like what I do but the people and the money are different. You have to work much harder now. In the old days you could make thousands a week with two hours a week of work. This wasn't the exception. It was the rule. It was unbelievable. I remember when lensman was posting at porncity and talking about his cameras. This brings back some memories for sure. I think I still remember my porncity number and street/avenue name. It would be funny if archive.org still had it up. :1orglaugh |

I started in this biz VERY late - January 2009 - so whatever 'success' I can squeeze out I'm happy with because it's all new to me. But if I had started back in 2002 I'd be like Shap (long gone) by now. I missed it, I missed out on the 'Golden Era' of online porn. Now? Only laws and regulation have even the slimmest chance of doing anything about this proliferation of free porn - where are the parents groups? Where is the outrage? - but barring that we're fucked. And not in a good way. BUT, as in my case, if we ratchet down expectations then Adult is still a pretty sweet business. (This will be tougher for the signupdamnit's of the world, sad to say.) |
I don't have to explain to my wife why there are naked chicks on my notebook all the time
|
When i was 16 year old,i was researching free hosts and somehow i found revsharehosting and that was my first encounter with affiliate porn, but i didn't really understood it then.3 years later,i was in PTR,PTS world, but i was only losing money there instead earning. So i found a board cozyboard, and created a thread with question is this porn affiliate thing real deal or some sort of scam, and one dude(papilon)responded how it's real deal.So i started to go further into it,and what i realy like on it,it is how it technology is way way more advanced then in mainstream, zero or minimum bureaucracy, less scam then in other industries, faster development in all fields. For example, look at paxum,i am sure if they would be just oriented to mainstream they would be lucky to have a single customer, yet in adult they dominate. But still,i am not a pornographer,i am still just a tech savvy guy who just happen to be in porn business.Considering you could do this entire life yet dont have any actual touch with porn industry.

i dont 'work in porn'.
i do affiliate marketing, for porn and mainstream sites. |
to make heaps of moneys! HEAPS I TELL YOU!

I was injured at work in 1999, unable to repair the damage I was placed on permeate disability and offered social security, food stamps etc... with a child in grade school at that time $1000 a month or whatever really didn't seem like much of an option... by the end of 2000 I was down to nothing with no savings, no health ins... nothing really... the lawsuit from the work injury settled, paid out somewhere around 35k if I remember correctly...'
I emailed every porn site on the net I could find, stating that I was a photographer asking how much the sites paid for images... with a few black and white nudes scanned and attached to the email as examples of my work. at that point I had been teaching myself photography for about 2 years... shooting nudes and headshots... however I wasn't actually a photographer... I had one Nikon F. 1, 105mm lens and 1, 58 mm lens and a set of novatron strobes... for those of you unfamiliar with cameras the Nikon F is a completely manual camera. doesn't even have a battery in it, the lenses are only manual focus. one site answered my email, telling me the prices and explaining how to find models from ads. I would place an ad, models would stop by, I would take a polaroid, scan that image and then email the image to the site for approval on the model. if I approved I would bring the model back, shoot 'x' amount of film on the models and send the film off for processing... my first month in the 'business' I made $600... been at it ever since... BTW we didn't shoot video back then and no agency would deal with me... the cocksuckers would hang up if I called.... |

Well I started in the biz because I went for an IT job, wasn't advertised as adult and wasn't told until my second interview.
I was straight out of college so wanted to just get a job as others struggled around me. The niche wasn't a preference or really a choice. However 6 years on and I'm loving my job, mainly for the company, secondly for the challenge. Oh and I guess having worked my way from bottom feeder link builder to running the sites is a key benefit for sticking around ;) |
Health Insurance and tix to Staples Center events :thumbsup
|
I'm really good at it and I make a lot of money.
I wise woman once said if your going to do something you better do it well. Or maybe that was Albert Einstein .. hmmm I like my job yes... its very isolating tho I think not normal and you can't talk about it.. I'm getting older tho... 42... everyone says I look 24... I will be here for awhile. I just went thru a midlife crisis. Now I just accept things and carry on. I will probably live to be 110 and make a mint on an internet freak site . |
Started as adult web site designer in 2006 - because the payment was times higher than those on mainstream. Then I asked the people here what to do with the things I do - and I launched a site.
Since then I got better in drawing chicks and tits.... honestly I've become better in that, but not impressive unfortunately.... I guess I'm in the biz... |
