Google penguin 2.0

let the massacre begin!

signupdamnit 05-23-2013 06:52 AM

So far It's not too bad. In the terms I monitor I am noticing a lot of pinterest and youtube. As usual the tubes get some love but it doesn't seem to be the same ones as before. There is heavy creep of non-adult authority sites into some adult terms. It's still churning but so far the buzz is that the bark is worse than the bite. :)

It may be interesting to read the hundreds comments there:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/pengui...led-out-today/

A selection, there seem contrasting reviews:

- I seen more spam sites are off the results. Social media gaining in search engine results.
- All I can see is that exact match domains rank well on Google.
- Still it needs to be more strong, I can see that most of the results are spam.
- Wikipedia is top 3 for many keywords where people are solely looking to buy, not looking for information. For some keywords, Wikipedia takes up 2 even 3 spaces on page 1….
- Biggest difference I see that one website is not dominating more than one spots on first page.
- you choose to rank a wikipedia article above me…
- google first page: lots of blogspot.com spam sites, this is Google webspam
- authorities now have a much larger presence as opposed to much smaller sites

I checked free cam girl keywords against our tubecamgirl.com site. Rank is mostly unchanged, some move up and down, but more moved up than down:

USA/EN, "cam girl free" , "girls live free", "cam girls free" unchanged as #4, #5, #6 places respectively, no penguin 2.0 effects:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...oogle.com&fp=1
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...oogle.com&fp=1
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...oogle.com&fp=1

USA/EN, "free cam girls" #6 after Penguin 2.0 (was #8 before, don't remember site penalized there)
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...oogle.com&fp=1

In results where our site ranked 10th to 20th, some went up and some down. In general I see if you was within first 5-6 results before penguin 2.0, you may have kept there, but if you was 10th to 20th there's a lot of moving. This make sense, happened with normal data updates all the time, even with same algorithm.

Then there's the other languages and countries, not just USA/EN.

GB(UK)/EN "cam girl free" kept same nice #3 place after penguin 2.0:
http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&safe=...gle.co.uk&fp=1

AU/EN "cam girl free" is now #4 after penguin 2.0, it was #5 before (but we been #2 months ago, Australia is volatile?):
http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&safe...le.com.au&fp=1

Canada/EN "cam girl free" kept same #5 place after pengiun 2.0:
http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&safe=off... oogle.ca&fp=1

It is interesting to see like for canada, that the first 4 places are es.chaturbate, chaturbate, fr.chaturbate and ru.chaturbate, which makes not much sense, I mean to give chaturbate the first 4 spots just because 4 hosts one per language, this it seems to pay well for SEO.
Then tubecamgirl then guess what: wikipedia.org for term CamGirl.
I expect more and more clever Wikipedia spam with articles full of links for "information".

I checked also other languages as German, French, but we're not much of translated to be authoritative results.

Now I wonder what's the effect on whitelabels. AWE was affected weeks ago before the update, I wonder how's going with the whitelabels of everyone else now.

Fat Panda 05-23-2013 08:07 AM

traffic has increased 50% since yesterday... THANKS GOOGLE!

Those search results, lol.

So much blogspot spam, as well as a Facebook page with 11 'likes', that's unreal.

digitalfantasies 05-23-2013 08:14 AM

I don't see a big change for my keywords... basically still crappy spam sites that rank higher than me... that is disappointing... I was hoping for better serps with this update

pornmasta 05-23-2013 04:31 PM

i wonder what's the real goal of these updates.
Obviously not what is claimed...

signupdamnit 05-23-2013 04:35 PM

I'm noticing some decent increases here. It's not retirement money but it's nice not to get fucked by Google for a change. As a bonus I'm absolutely loving this! http://blog.searchmetrics.com/us/201...oser-analysis/ It's like an early birthday present.

I've read that many believe Penguin 2.0 is more focused on rankings per keyword or phrase. So that means it can hit some phrases your site ranks for but leave others alone. It will not necessarily hit all terms. This seems to match the results we are seeing.

ChellyS 05-23-2013 04:57 PM

Over all my traffic from google is up about 20% from the average, so im not complaining lol just sucks ass I got kicked down from page 1 to actually 4 right now. It's the business i guess lol

ups and downs for me.

Fiddler 05-24-2013 03:49 AM

We've lost some rankings, gained some others. Doesn't look like a huge change, just ranking for surprising terms and some of the ones we used to rank for have fallen off the radar.

Some work to be done here I guess!

ctggls 05-24-2013 04:49 AM

I've posted a thread about this yesterday. I've seen that after every update the results get fucked up but after 2 -3 week everything gets back to normal. Some of my sites lost a few positions some gained a little.

For example for one of the keywords, on the first position, with USA IP there was the mobile version of the site, m.sitename.com .

So let's wait another week for the final results.

I don't see how it could be a negative difference for pornhub because they are everywhere on first position for every imaginable "porn" term....

It is the only ones I had monitored before of the update, so I could compare these only. Whoever monitor "porn" etc. may show own results.
I've re-run the links and noticed small changes already (for ex "girls live free" is now #4 instead of #5, and another slipped one lower), so google is changing still, probably tuning... a more final update may be after weeks I think.

No, in fact I think this may have helped keeping up in the google results as content is "unique" or so. My affiliates with owndomain.com mostly do redirects to our site or simply fill it with banners and such, it is doing ok.

Yes the term porn... in UK = freeones.co.uk on top, good for Roald. But ops - no more in first page at all for UK.
Google are you changing algoritm every 6 hours? :) Tell us when you're done.
I don't know what the previous ranking it was, to compare, but let's search porn and porno in all the countries:

USA:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...gle.com &fp=1
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...gle.co m&fp=1

I see manwin + xnxx/xvideos etc. normal tubes right?

CAnada:
http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&safe=off...ogle.ca& fp=1
http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&safe=off...ogle.ca &fp=1

Canada is funny there are 2 turkish porn tubes?!

UK(GB):
http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&safe=...e.co. uk&fp=1
http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&safe=...e.co .uk&fp=1

In UK added the BBC site, and again the 2 turkish porn tubes.. they must enjoy traffic...

AUstralia:
http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&safe....com .au&fp=1
http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&safe....co m.au&fp=1

Australia is like USA just xhamster more popular.

DE: (Germany):
http://www.google.de/#hl=de&safe=off...oogle.de& fp=
http://www.google.de/#hl=de&safe=off...oogle.de &fp=

German results a little on its own, 4tube, sunporno high, and some german stuff.

FRance:
http://www.google.fr/#hl=fr&safe=off...oogle.fr& fp=
http://www.google.fr/#hl=fr&safe=off...oogle.fr &fp=

In France, FR. host of perfectfirls and FR.* host of pornhubs and other sites quite rule. It seems to really pay to do one host per countrycode.

ITaly:
http://www.google.it/#hl=it&safe=off...oogle.it& fp=
http://www.google.it/#hl=it&safe=off...oogle.it &fp=

Again IT.pornhub ant it.* and some italy only stuff.

NL(Roaldland):
http://www.google.nl/#hl=nl&safe=off...oogle.nl& fp=
http://www.google.nl/#hl=nl&safe=off...oogle.nl &fp=

The "porno" term there brings wikipedias and lots non porn articles, while "porn" is usual tubes.

You can do the same with "sex" etc. and take your conclusions.

It seems to me the change it was very little, the usual tubes are in top, and usual cam sites are in top.
I also checked my traffic from http referers = google.* it seems the same.
Seems a minor update?

I'm seeing a lot of shuffling happening on the 100 or so keyword phrases I monitor closely. What worries me most is the influx of authority mainstream sites taking over adult phrases. Last summer Google started to flush adult sites out of adult phrases and so far Penguin 2 seems to be doing the same. I'm hoping adult sites will rebound of course, but I'm preparing to change target phrases just in case.

ctggls 05-24-2013 12:18 PM

What is that "bbc" link doing there ??? With google.com, USA IP, perfectgirls is not even close to number 1 for "porn" search...
