doesn't matter...old school bikes are easy to fix...ELBOW GREASE! all the pieces and parts appear to be there, i would say go for it.

completely wrong. a fully seized bottom-end is impossible to fix.

in theory you are correct, but you can ditch the internal parts and start fresh. i know that is not exactly"fixing" it, but as long as the engine cases are intact, the motor can be "rebuilt"

right, that's the risk, losing the serial #s on those cases, if the internal melded to the cases, which is a full seize.

a bike of the provenance, it's pretty much a basketcase otherwise.

purecane 05-23-2013 12:43 PM

good point. it's not like you're going to find a 66 bsa motor to swap out the bad one as you would with a modern bike.....

i got to thinking though, i wonder if bsa was even putting serial #s on their cases in 1966... some (most?) vehicle manufacturers didn't start that till a few years later.

i guess there would still be the problem of tracking down another 66-era bsa motor.

jay leno could prolla crank one out for ya in about 45 minutes.

harvey 05-23-2013 02:52 PM

At that price, I'd buy it right now. However, without seeing it in person.... I wouldn't risk it. Much less if you don't have time to dedicate to it

Never doubt the power of EBAY....

dyna mo 05-23-2013 06:43 PM

looks like they used serial #s in 1965, those few cases on ebay all have them. hoepfully the original is still good.
