Anyone catch the new Arrested Development episode?

I'm a fan but haven't had time to check out the new episode yet. Was it good?

...episodes.

Arrested Development was just about my favorite show in its day, though Season 3 was weak and by the end I wasn't too disappointed to see it go.

I've only seen the first episode so far; it wasn't terrible, just kinda bland. And I think it might just be too long since it ended to bring it back anyway.

As a fan I'll probably watch the rest of the episodes, but if I wasn't a fan I'd skip it, on the 'strength' of the first episode.

I was a big fan of the original series. Was really looking forward to the new episodes on Netflix. I've seen the first 8 so far (there are 15) and my opinion is that they suck. They are disappointing.

I just did a season 1 - 3 binge over the last month or 2, then watched season 4 episode 1 last night and found it depressing. I love Michael's quiet sarcasm and confidence in his family's stupidity in the old episodes. The new season seems way different.

I'll watch the rest with an open mind, but didn't love the first episode.

It's the final countdown.

I have been watching the new ones and they aren't bad. The episodes have their moments and I have to respect how well the characters stories are weaved together.

I agree. I have watched the first 10. A few are outstanding, most are good and a couple are sub par. Overall I believe that the expectations for this show after a 7 year hiatus were completely unattainable. Simply put they weren't competing against their own show from 7 years ago, but rather a romanticized, aged to perfection version of that series wherein we all forgot the bad episodes and just focused on how awesome the concept was. It was a no win situation for them. At the end of the day I applaud the effort and the fact that the whole cast came back to what was more of a passion project then a one to advance their careers and bank accounts.

:2 cents:

Not as funny as the original, but still pretty funny and very well done bringing us up to date with all the characters and their paths after the coast guard raid. I liked the way the added actual events that happened during the 8 yrs the show was off air into various timelines. The way episode 15 ends, it seems that they will be continuing the series.
