I am going to guess that the answer to your question is twofold. From what I read, there are definitely those that feel the cost is prohibitive. I was reading an article the other day where the author was talking about how there are still 4-packs available in the $9 range. I am happy when I can get a bottle of the good stuff for $9/ea.

I just got back from the Stone Company Store in Pasadena for the release of their Enjoy By 07.04.13 where 22oz bottles were only $7/each. To me, that is a steal.

The other issue is probably palates. It is my contention that anyone that says they do not like beer has just not been introduced to the right beer for them. If someone tries an 8, 12 or 16 oz pour of something they don't like they might be dissuaded from even trying another. That is why I always recommend flights when you are somewhere new.

Baddog,
9$ is actually a lot. I thought craft beer cost at most twice more expensive than some regular miller etc. If miller cost 1$/each and craft beer cost 9$/each than its indeed the price tag which stops most of people. Where I live craft beer cost only 50-100% more than mainstream beer, not 9 times more. Of course SOME cost 9 times more, but majority is only up to 100% more expensive than mainstream beers.
I am talking bottle prices in stores, not bar/restaurant prices.

Most craft beers do not cost $9 each. I wrote an article about an experience I had with a beer club at http://craftbeerguy.com/beer-boxer-caveat-emptor/ - You can see that all of those beers were $1.50 - $3.00 each. The limited release bottles I got were $7/ea for 22oz (from the source). I am sure most stores will charge about $10/ea. However, I have been known to pay more than $15/bottle at some stores because it was a limited release.

I have a friend that brought me a growler of Pure Hoppiness from Alpine Beer Company, I am going to wait another 23 minutes before pouring a glass.

Despite popular belief, people actually enjoy that "piss". Just because you don't doesn't mean the world is like you.

Hate all you want, but I do enjoy sitting down and drinking a "piss" Busch Light.

When you grow up and stop talking shit about other peoples taste in things, the better your life will be.

It is a matter of expanding your palate. The beers I have trouble with are sours, but I am learning.

Anyone got the pot and the kettle pic ?

beerptrol 06-03-2013 04:13 PM

Yep brewing your own today is so easy. I use extracts and been experimenting with adding different types of hops to the kits. Eventually I'll be doing all grain brewing. Right now I have an Irish Stout, English Bitter, and a Cooper'e IPA with added Cascade Leaf Hops going. Just bottled some hard cider

baddog 06-03-2013 04:14 PM

Anyone have any beer related websites they want to promote. I got a wiki site as well as some others for trades.

Most of them enjoy real beer even more, the issue is that they never tried it... When they try most of them say that hey prefer craft beer better.
Also I am not saying that piss beer is not enjoyable. It is enjoyable as well, just not as much as quality product.

Awesome! I've got my own beer blog too, as well as a bunch of domains I'm trying to find time to develop. Lots of microbreweries opened up here recently, it's crazy to see how popular craft beers are becoming. I'd be interested in trading ideas and links, theheron18 at yahoo com

Yep, been a couple of years for me now. I've got to bottle a batch tonight or soon. Some specialty grains and 9 pounds of malt extract (I don't do all grain yet) and about 5 ounces of el dorado hops. It almost blew the lid off after 24 hours but I got a blow off tube connected in time. It'll be a nice one, OG 1070 so a nice percent of alcohol. Probably would cost 10 bucks a six pack but I made it for about half that. Thats the trick with home brew. It's not that you can always make it cheaper, but you can make a great beer as cheaply as a swill beer costs.

Here's the kit: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/gold-dust-ipa.html
