I have an FN 5.7 and an FN-SCAR-L (.223).
Both are pretty bad ass and give you plenty of "shock and awe".
The 5.7 is just amazing to shoot, but it just is not practical unless you plan on taking out massive amounts of people in some rage (used by Ft. Hood Massacre dude). The velocity of the round makes over-penetration a very serious issue (i.e., not a good home defense weapon, you might kill the intruder and your next door neighbor). Has a sweet muzzle flash, and not much perceived recoil at all. Also deadly accurate. IMHO, it will eventually be banned due to the velocity issue and large capacity magazine. If you get one, don't ever sell it. Also, ammo in insanely expensive and hard to get ($1 a round now, but perhaps prices have gone down).
The SCAR is just insane. Just mean. Collapseable stock and enough rail space to put on enough accessories to make a small army cringe. So accurate you don't even need to to put optics on it (I have EOTECH optics and green laser on mine). One the downside, very limited options for after-market magazines.
The prices are sky high right now, but hopefully they will go down. You can't go wrong with them.
