Haven't seen him online since last Wednesday, anyone know how to get a hold of him? This will be the second time that he's taken off...

I've known fris for almost 10 years, this doesn't sound like him at all, I'm sure there's a logical explanation as to why he went MIA. I hope whatever he was doing for you gets done, but he is hardly a "deadbeat loser".

But I am upset with Fris, and as it stands he's had 640$ of mine for a few weeks without delivering anything

I took him up on the monthly offer he had posted a while back, to hire him on a monthly basis -- there was a little delay initially in where immediately after he got the money he took off, and said he had food poisoning... didn't buy it but still wanted to work with him... took my money back, waited until he felt better, then sent him money again, this time not the full amount, but a 640$ deposit to get started.

Things seemed to be fine for a few days, no results, but at least communication, he needed a few days longer to complete the first task we were working on, gave him twice that amount, then when I wanted to talk to him again, I haven't seen him online for a week.

This is nothing new, happens all the time with freelance work, usually I have money in escrow but I figured with Fris's reputation it would be a safer bet to give him something upfront as he requested. Now I'm left with 2-3 weeks worth of delays where I could've hired someone else and Fris is no where to be found.

Damn, that doesn't sound like fris at all... He has been MIA period, not just from you, so I don't know what's up, but hopefully he pops back around, or you get your money back/job finished. Sorry to hear that man. :Oh crap

Definitely not cool to leave client uninformed and without response while in the process of project, and that would be not cool even if deadlines were not passed. And they are. Since I hire freelancers as well I 100% understand what are you going through.

I'm pretty sure a guy with Fris's skillset can shit out $700 in a day.. So I wouldn't be worried fella. You will either get your work or your money.

I've seen fris give away fairly valuable domains for $50 and sell ad spots that profit for under a half of their revenue. He did a job for me free and could have charged $150 no problems.

So I'm sure there is a good reason as to why he is unavailable. He's got bigger things on his plate to stop his real life in its tracks for one little job. I don't see anyone else chiming in.

I'm not saying your job isn't important or your money isn't important, and I mean that. But you knew how busy he was when you hired him again.

Whatever the case, if what you say is true, you'll get straightened out I'm certain.

We paid him for a job over 6 months ago that never got completed, and he ignored all correspondence we sent as well after the first week of working on said project... so, I wouldn't be so quick to speak for someone else' credibility heh... It is what it is though, we hired him once, he fell through and we simply won't hire him again...

I'm not saying I don't empathize with the client, I'm saying there must be a good reason for his absence.

No, as I said in my previous post, all correspondence after the first week were ignored so we moved on and I ended up writing the scripts myself.

As I said, it is what it is. For every one person who had a bad experience, a thousand more jump in and defend someone they likely never hired to begin with (not saying you have or haven't, just saying in general).

If you're providing a service for a fee then the bullshit needs to be left at the door. Either do the job or don't accept it, and if something comes up, inform your paying client(s) of such...

Perhaps you should have pursued communications for longer than a week, not saying that makes it justifiable in any regard.. But again Fris is the type of guy who has a thousand things on his plate.. He is constantly helping people on this forum and doing favors for folks here.

I would hire Fris in a second.. I actually did of sorts and he refused payment citing the work was too easy. But still work and time none the less.

I highly doubt there are that many people who have had this type of experience with him, as this board eats their own. But again I do empathize with anyone who has hired anyone for a job and hasn't received it.. If specific terms were agreed upon.

Did he do any work for you? Did you receive anything? Did you pay anything upfront?

The OP said he was refunded initially.. Then re-hired. I myself have never run into a freelancer who doesn't occasionally run into issues via life or work that has a negative effect on the work agreed upon or the deadline. People aren't perfect, and shit happens, being it justifiable or not.

There are always two sides to every story as well.

I can only state from personal experience I find Fris to be very trustworthy and very good at what he does, unique in fact.

I do feel empathize with the OP and yourself as well.. But life happens, and again there are always two sides to every story. I myself would be very reluctant to walk away from an agreed* upon job after only one week after the start date if I had both hired and paid for x amount of work and received nothing. But that's me.

As to the OP, again.. If fris is mia I'm sure there is reason for it. If he or anyone else has issue with this, I suggest going elsewhere with their business next time.
