All while people who just build sites and aren't so particular about SEO... I mean they do it, but aren't crazy about it, have very little problems when the new changes roll out and if they do get hit, they aren't hurting.

As much as you are normally an asshole (like myself), this is true.
Google has done nothing more than attempt to eliminate the people cheating the end user. Is that a bad thing? I remember the days of sifting through page upon page upon page of garbage before I found what I wanted. Remember people using bottom of the page keywords that were the same color as the background of their html? Gone. Thank fucking God.
Jackasses that back-link between their own sites, hosted, rehosted, etc. stuffing pages with relevant keywords mixed in with gobbledeegook are going the way of the dodo.
I run an honest enterprise. I own top notch keywords that outweigh supergiants such as RetailMeNot.com and other discount websites. I know that site over-all gets more traffic than I will ever see... daily. Not on my keywords though, bruh. Google knows what's up.
Remember, there is a reason why the tubes own the FREE PORN serps... :2 cents:
