'Night Stalker? Richard Ramirez Dead In San Quentin

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) ? Convicted serial killer and rapist Richard Ramirez has died of natural causes in San Quentin, according to reports Friday.

California corrections officials say Ramirez ? who was known as the ?Night Stalker? ? has died in prison, according to the Associated Press.

Ramirez terrorized the Southland during the mid-1980s with a series of home break-ins that resulted in the murders of 13 victims.

He was convicted in 1989 of 13 counts of murder, five attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries.

Ramirez was sentenced to death and had been awaiting execution by gas chamber.

Of course. California doesn't like to execute someone until at least $1 million of our tax dollars have been spent keeping them alive :)

alex.missyouth 06-07-2013 09:41 AM

One less psycho to worry about.

well it might have hurt his feeling is they had executed him... don't want to upset anybody here and beside if some dumbass bitch got raped and murdered in her own home in the middle of the night I'm sure it was there fault [/sarcasm]

LeRoy 06-07-2013 09:51 AM

I remember that vividly.

Hot friggen summer and he was using open windows to kill people.

Sarah_Jayne 06-07-2013 09:54 AM

I always think of him when I think of nutcase women that become groupies for killers.

yeah, i'm still checking in on that story, the last update is they couldn't figure out how she died, were doing toxicology tests and those take several weeks, that was a couple months ago but nothing else has been reported.

I lived in socal when he was on his spree, crazy bastard. I remember my parents rigging up pots and pans on a string in front of the open sliding glass door in their bedroom as some rudimentary alarm lol. :upsidedow

I have a serial killer site that I put together years ago and I did write ups on a bunch of them. I spent like two weeks doing that and then felt hunted every time I went outside for a bit..lol. Writing Chase's story is the one that icked me out the most. Mostly because of the drinking out of a baby the way he did.

I still have the site and it gets decent organic traffic but I can't figure out how to make money from it. Adsense canned it and none of the adult versions of adsense wanted to take it. It isn't even that graphic a site. Certainly no images of crimes.

i cam to cali in the late 80's, people were still talking about this guy.
cant believe he wasnt fried already.
i am guessing $30K-50K per year for an inmate on deathrow = $720K or more wasted on this fucker..

That is likely just the tip of the iceberg of the cost on this guy. You also have to add in all the cost of his legal representation over all those years. Most of it would have come during the original trail and appeals in the few years following the trial, but many of these guys spend years and years and years doing nothing but filing motions as they attempt find a technicality to use on their case.

it's $100k more per year above the cost of regular inmate housing.

there must be 2 trials instead of one, each trial averages $one million.

+ more bullony.

Yes, instead of costly trials and pesky due process we should simply execute people on the spot. Sure we'll make mistakes, but the chances of it affecting us are slim, and just think how many tax dollars we'll save.

If you want to argue about the cost of incarceration, start with non-violent offenders who are no risk to the public and who could and should be sentenced in cheaper, more productive and more humane ways, outside of prison.

Of course the reality is that our prisons are commercial enterprises that provide corporations with slave labor -- which is why we have 2.3 million prisoners, compared to 7.7 million in every other country in the world put together -- and releasing non-violent prisoners would reduce their 'workforce' by half.

.

This is actually a good idea.

Just make sure to source where you got your information from in the text.

Really thought the guy was dead years and years ago. Was living in the area while it was going on and he really did bring terror to the whole of L.A.
