Just picked up a new GoPro Hero silver...
Anyone else been playin' with one?
How do you like it? Still unboxing it...chargin' it up. Added a 32gb micro SD to it (hopefully should be enough storage for starters) http://www.scubatoys.com/store/Camer...verEdition.jpg |
I don't have one but they are an amazing camera.
When I jumped off a mountain a few weeks ago the guy I was with had one and it took epic photos and videos. |

Not planning on anything quite so epic - but my first test will be to take it under a local waterfall - coupled with some aerial shots with an AR Drone quadcopter. |
My uncle has a quad and I would love to get one but im not very technical and ready to go are really expensive. Plus it's difficult knowing which to go for.
It's also highly likely I would buy and use it just once. |
Looking forward to seeing how you like it.
|
i'm interested. why did you pick the silver?

Basically the only thing black had over silver was the $100 remote included - which I don't really need. I can use my Samsung galaxy 4 or tablet app for that anyways. |

I need to find out if it'll lift the GoPro (without the waterproof housing). |
I've got the same one, I got it around Christmas and they only had the silver in stock... mine came with the Chest mount as well, which is kind of neat. I've had the "overheating" problem once, but otherwise it has been awesome... I do most videos in 720p now, at 60 fps for the slow motion. anyways, I'm having a lot of fun with it.

If you get a GoPro - definitely splash out extra for the backpac add-on...otherwise you're shootin' blind without a viewfinder or monitor of any kind. And all the controls/settings can be controlled easily with the backpac. |

the black also has a much better lens as well as 2k 30P and 1080 60P which is very nice |

there are some that will for the same price and they have gopro mounts |
Been shoooting with the black for abut a month and LOVE it
|
I was interested but the battery still does not seem long enough for me

Both the silver and black have a f/2.8, 6-element asphyerical lens, ultra-wide angle, reduced distortion. Quote:
I'm not saying the black isn't worth the extra bucks - it's just overkill for my needs. I'd sooner spend the extra on accessories. Also - you are going to need a fairly powerful computer and editing suite to take full advantage of these highest modes on the black unit. |
Got one two weeks ago. Such cool cameras.
|
Very cool gadget, I'll try it someday.

It rather blows my mind - the size of these GoPro cams.
In the mid-80s I bought a 1st-gen Sony 8mm camcorder (V5 model, if memory serves). And even though I put it through hell and shot literally thousands of hours with it - it lasted me more than a decade. But as for size - hell...the GoPro is less than half the size of just the damn battery the Sony camcorder took back in the day, lol. Price wise - I paid about $2200 for the Sony in the mid 80s. It would only record 2 hours worth (if the battery held up). The editing features were primitive by comparison, the lowlight capability was shit (think it was 6-8lux). And the tapes were prone to oxide dropouts as they got older. Just gettin' a little nostalgic here today. :1orglaugh |

BIG DIFF in sharpness also you need a good graphics card more than a fast computer for the 2k and 4k modes but if the silver meets your needs you made the right choice...always go for what works.... |
I've had the Hero2 for Over a year now, fucking love it!
|
Buy plenty of extra brackets, the dual ac/dc charger with 2 extra batteries and plenty of mount styles for the most versatility.
The blue tooth remote is far better than your phone, but set your phone up as well. |

Also with the wide angle, you'd have to be a little touched in the head to not get what you are aiming for. Sorry to be rude, I have never ever had the problem of not getting what I wanted. How hard is it to aim a 170deg lens at your preferred subject?? Also a gopro is designed to capture both what you want and were not aware of... |

Second - as for aiming/composition - what if I don't want a mountain bike tire in the bottom of the frame - but can't tell by merely eyeballing the direction of the lens? Why do you think all other cameras on the market today include either a viewfinder or a rear monitor of some kind? Why would GoPro even make a backpac available if there wasn't a need or demand for it? At the store I thought the same as you - with the wide angle why would I want or need a monitor? Once I started tinkering with the unit - I realized it was more difficult to navigate the settings menu in the tiny front-mount screen (the text is incredible tiny...I'd guesstimate around 4-5point at most). Even with my glasses on it was nearly impossible to read. The backpac makes it easier to quickly adjust the settings. Glad you're able to simply point and hope for the best - if that works for you...great. I like more control over the composition and other considerations. |

As for other bs - you can change ALL of the settings with your phone / tablet - no need for the bulky expensive screen. |

My only gripe is battery life. It needs to be re-charged too quickly.

Or is your pocket already full with your parking ticket machine? |

This looks amazing. I would love to use one of those wing suits once in my life.
