Xbox One is the "1984" of Consoles
Xbox One Online Requirement, Used Games Details, NSA Spying Revealed: Is This The Worst Console Ever? Probably
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/5435/xboxone.jpg By Apolon on June 6, 2013 9:54 PM EDT The Xbox One online requirement is now officially confirmed. So is its policy towards used games, blocked from the system -- at least sometimes. So is its new sharing function ... the Xbox One shares all of your data with your best buddy, the National Security Agency. Yea, it was a pretty day for Xbox supporters, if there are any left. We'll take you through the dreadful details, and if you aren't in denial (or a true Scotsman), you'll see that Microsoft has really birthed a dreadful beast this time around. First off, the Xbox One online requirement has been codified, and what we already heard through backdoor channels was spot on. In order to play games, the Xbox One must phone home at least once every 24 hours, or, like Cinderella, it will turn back into a pumpkin pricey cable box and Blu-Ray player (that's the story of Cinderella, right?). If it doesn't phone home, you can't play games on your game console. Wow. If the Internet is down when you first get a new game, too bad; you can't authenticate it. If Microsoft's servers go down for a week (remember, PSN went down for almost a month in 2011; it's not all that farfetched), too bad. If you decide to move to the remote reaches of Alaska, too bad (and can I come with you?). When Microsoft discontinues the Xbox One servers fifteen years from now, too bad -- now X1 is a brick forever. Even if you don't care about any of that, the Xbox One online requirement is anti-customer. It does not benefit customers in any way; it is just fancy DRM mixed with data mining. It is dreadful. Speaking of DRM, the Xbox One is officially killing used games, too: Microsoft is letting every publisher decide for themselves whether to allow used games to be sold at all. Spoiler alert, they are the ones who lose most from used games. This is a CYA way for Microsoft to ban them. Short some GameStop and GameFly stock, folks. continued.. According to leaked screen captures, the new console, codenamed ?Durango,? will be ?Always On, Always Connected,? meaning it will require a perpetual Internet connection, in addition to a new high-fidelity Kinect Sensor, ?which will be required for the system to operate,? representing a huge win for Big Brother in infiltrating homes across the across the world under the guise of trendiness. Being touted as a measure to ensure ?software and games are always current,? the new Xbox will not allow users to play games unless a permanent Internet connection is established, according to leaked screenshots obtained by the website Vgleaks. ?Durango will implement different power states so that it can always be powered on, but will draw minimal electricity when not in use,? the grainy, leaked screenshot states, adding, ?The console will be ready instantly when users want to play, and will always maintain a network connection so that software and games are always current. With this ?Always On, Always Connected? design, users will quickly and easily enjoy their connected entertainment experiences, with no waiting for the console to restart or install updates.? ?Durango would require a permanent internet connection,? writes Vgleaks. ?Yes, if you want to play a single adventure, you would have to be online. Whatever you will play, you must be online. Take the time machine and come back 3 years ago to erase the responsible person.? Likewise, the new system reportedly will not ?operate? unless ?a new high-fidelity Kinect Sensor? is attached, which will reportedly be sold with the console, granting the new Xbox eerie Big Brother-like powers. As the current Xbox 360 Kinect device is already equipped with motion sensors, infrared sensors (enabling it to map out environments ? like your room ? and detect different faces), a multi-array microphone (capable of distinguishing different voices) and a 640×480 pixel VGA camera (enabling it to see as we do), we can expect the next Kinect?s technology to be exponentially more intricate and dangerous. continued.. http://www.forbes.com/sites/markrogo...lled-xbox-one/ http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/905...newarpeace.jpg |
I can already foresee the kinect camera footage being used in a murder trial. lol.
I have security cameras around my house that are accessible via the internet and I feel kinda bad about what would happen if someone ever hacks into them. Just imagine putting a camera on your house on purpose that constantly reports back to microsoft and possibly the NSA. They have already talked about catering ads on your xbox dashboard based on how many people are in the room at the time, etc. What's the next step.... if they catch you masturbating in front of the kinect will there suddenly be fleshlight ads on your xbox dashboard? |
Well, I was going to buy both.

I would add to that, but I better not. |
They should pay you to take it home and attach it. I'm not even kidding.

cool so the gov can watch me play call of duty naked for 20hrs straight

I was buying a PS4 anyway, but this just confirms it all the more.
I buy a console for games. Other features are nice, but a console is for GAMES! X-Box One should fail miserably, but obviously it will still sell shitloads, since people will stick by it regardless of what they do... |
I don't understand how they aren't taking a step back and go in a different direction.. this will kill them, people are paranoid enough lately with the current scandal. If they think they are immune to a backlash they are dreaming..
ps what data are they going to mine from you with your xbox profile exactly? How many hours you spend talking shit on cod games? The camera thing is creepy but I think people will be more upset about sharing games and resale rather than that. |

Play stare-outs with the camera, or put the thing infront of you while on an excersise bike to fuck with the heart rate thing :1orglaugh You could always tape over the camera aswell if you really had to. Not being able to trade games is crap, unless they make the games cheaper. |

I was a big Xbox fan, but seriously, fuck dat shit. There is no way I'm going to be so stupid as to introduce a 24/7 high speed audio/video wire tap into my bloody living room! PS4 (so far) is looking to be a great alternative. |

PC Gaming still reigns supreme, nothing to see here.

I want to see if the thing Valve (Steambox?) are making gets anywhere, there is also another small console coming soon (might be released by now) but can't think of the damn name of it. |
I don't understand consoles. Those are for kids.
I play COD every day; I don't have to pay for it. |
Also, they are saying that the technology used to create games for the platform will cost almost double what it costs, now. Companies will need more manned hours and staff to create and develop titles. That won't fly with many smaller companies who make great games.
I'm a console boy, by nature. If I cant play games while my ISP has an outage, the console is completely useless. I was an Xbox fan boy, of sorts. With this latest bullshit, you can count me out. I'd better put my reservation in for a PS4, at Game Stop... |

Kinect always on, needs internet, I never play xbox online. It isn't even connected to the internet. I will likely get the PS4. Sony must be revelling in Microsoft's idiocy, Sony will make a fortune out of this. Microsoft yet again show how out of touch they are with the users of their products... |
People have their computers, tv's and what not connected to the internet 24/7 and suddenly just because it is a requirement they start whining?
Just go buy a PS4. I pay monthly fee for Netflix. Funny, it needs an internet connection to work as well. Owner of two PS3 and will probably get both consoles this time. |

If I don't want to connect to PSN I don't have to, and can chose not to. I only use PSN for Fifa and GT5, if I'm not playing either of those, I have it turned off so it loads quicker and doesn't waste time downloading crap. My PS3 doesn't become useless if I don't want to connect to PSN, and if my laptop isn't connected to the internet, is doesn't turn into a black plastic brick either. Can't you see why people would be annoyed at that? |

C'mon, son... |

They're sold to kids but are geared for adults. |

I was somewhat interested in the Xbox One at first, but now with all of this info, fuck it.
On the bright side, I signed up for the Gamestop "First to know" mailing list about the Xbox One, and in one of the first emails, there was an FAQ about it. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/pages/sto...xone-faqs.aspx Quote:

There are also a few Android powered consoles in development too like M.O.J.O., GameStick, and OUYA (which raised $8,596,474 already on kickstarter). |
The Top Reasons why I will be opting for Sony's PS4 this go around..
1) It's cheaper by $100. 2) No used game restrictions. 3) Will still work "without" an Internet connection. 4) Stronger support for indie developers. 5) Games won't be region locked. 6) The Hardware is slightly more powerful. 7) No compulsory cameras watching me in my living room! 8) Less Privacy Issues (who was just implicated in the NSA PRISM program? - Yes, Microshaft! They just proved they can't be trusted with your private data.) It's no contest. Sony is going to hand Microsoft it's ass in the eighth generation console war. |
After having my XBox Live account banned twice already this year for "spamming", when I only watch Netflix on it (at $10 per month just to sign into Live), waiting 2 months to get it unbanned so I can watch "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret", then having it banned again out of nowhere and getting no help from support, I vowed to never buy MSFT anything again.
Frankly I am glad they did this and I hope no one buys the new XBox. |
The controller will be nice for PC gaming.

Will have to look into the others :thumbsup I like the idea of letting gamers create their own games, and the platform being more open, and less corporate. |
if they are going to advertise products on the system, then it should be free, console and games - greedy mother fuckers.
|
Will be buying both....
|
You could just break the camera after taking it out of the box, right? Smash it.
Anyway, I've never considered XBox. Ever. I have always owned PS consoles. And I still have an original TurboGrafx system around here somewhere (it works too). |
Only time when I have time to play a game is when my internet is down.

Today I learned that Xbox One will be only initially released in 21 countries (Poland, where I live, not being one of them). Even if I imported one here from abroad I wouldn't be able to use it - it would be blocked due to Polish IP. Those restrictions are getting fucking ridiculous.

Another Microsoft success story.
I was going to get ps4 anyway, watchdogs is dope. |
