all one needs to secure private communication is PGP or GPG. get receivers public key cert, encrypt message with it, send through any protocol knowing that your private communication stays private

imo all messengers, email clients, smartphones should offer contents encryption based on something like PGP/GPG.

I'm pretty sure that the NSA probably already knows how to decrypt most communications. I wonder if the mere encrypting of data might also flag communications for further scrutiny (since the majority of transmissions are not encrypted).
