Interesting thing I just noticed on Facebook

This might be old news to many of you, but I just noticed it. Someone I have as a friend on Facebook's wife is pregnant. They know the sex of the baby and already have a name for her. So they have registered her Facebook account and have friended her. When you look under the family section of his page it shows the girls name and the relationship as "daughter (pending)"

Am I the only one that thinks this is strange?

did you friend her?

Sly 06-18-2013 02:42 PM

My cousin recently had a baby boy, but last year she had a miscarriage. Of course you wouldn't want to have a pregnant woman actively thinking about the possibilities of having a miscarriage, but the heartbreak after a miscarriage compounded with Facebook pages etc would just be unreal.

no........

Rochard 06-18-2013 02:56 PM

Facebook is recruiting members before they are out of the womb. Amazing.

JenniDahling 06-18-2013 03:06 PM

That baby is going to be raised as an attention ho'

SplatterMaster 06-18-2013 03:07 PM

I find it rather strange. I mean by the time that baby is big enough to use Facebook there will be a new thing in town. I mean I see some people create online albums etc that will be used to show off pictures but setting up a new account for them is beyond odd.

The Heron 06-18-2013 03:49 PM

LOOK AT ME! i'm special right?

That was my thought as well. It will be at least 8-10 years before that kid can use the account and by then Facebook might not even be around or it won't be the current thing everyone is using. Are the parents planning on posting on this account as if they are the kid so the baby will be giving her updates?

serious question.

a lot of implications here, what are the parents expecting? what would be wrong with friending your friend's unborn daughter? are you supposed to friend your friend's unborn daughter.

what are the online social protocols the parents are going by here.

Elli 06-18-2013 04:01 PM

It might be more useful for them to register the gmail addy of firstname.lastname if that's what they want. Friending people's kids... I don't do it. It weirds me out. Facebook is for adults and very supervised children. Kids don't need to see their aunts and uncles "omg I got soooo loser drunk last night" rants.

MaDalton 06-18-2013 04:16 PM

they register a Facebook page for an unborn child? people do have weird priorities nowadays

Sly 06-18-2013 04:23 PM

We should all be realistic.

Many of us spend our weekends on a message board arguing the merits of a circumcised penis. Maybe Facebook mothers are not that weird after all!

LOL.

Lol. I didn't. I did send him a message asking why they did that and haven't heard back yet.

shake 06-18-2013 04:52 PM

My wife and I are thinking of having another kid, but we don't have a name yet so I registered his or her Facebook page as "Left nut" for now.

PornDiscounts-V 06-18-2013 06:03 PM

Father : Honey, so you have something you'd like to share with your mother and I?

Daughter : What? No! Why?

Mother : sweetie, it is ok. We aren't mad. We just would like to know why you posted on Facebook about your baby before coming to us.

Facebook requires you to be 13+ to register.

baddog 06-18-2013 08:34 PM

I thought there was an age requirement of 8 or something like the maturity level of the average GFYer.

paffie 06-18-2013 10:16 PM

I wouldn't allow my kid to have a facebook page, and i don't think any of her friends have one either (she's 5 in august). Maybe Belgians are oldfashioned?

I DID however checked if her first name was available as a tld, and it was. So i registered it right away. I figured, by the time she's 15, it might be fun for her to have unlimited email-adresses [email protected], and if not, i wouldn't mind...

Sound like fucking idiots to me. I already feel sorry for the kid.

If that is one of the parents main concerns before giving birth, then it really does tell it's own story...

I think there is, but I also don't think they enforce it very well. My 11-year-old niece has a Facebook and a Twitter. A friend of mine's 10-year-old daughter has a Facebook as well.

there, you said it.

Phil LoadedCash 06-18-2013 11:41 PM

Then in 12 years they will wonder why their daughter ran off with someone they met online.

Konda 06-18-2013 11:46 PM

The pending just means that the relationship (daughter) hasn't been confirmed yet by the other account. It's not because the baby isn't born yet or something.

In many cases that likely is the case. Here, I happen to know the guy so I know the account is for his unborn daughter. I wonder if it says pending because he hasn't logged into this new account they created for the baby and approved the status/request.

It's 13 (at leat here it is).

I once told my 12 year old step daughter that she can't use Facebook, the look on her face was almost as priceless as that time when I told her there was no internet for a whole weekend.

baggg 06-19-2013 01:47 AM

My 11-year-old niece gets home from school in the afternoon and the first thing she does is update her Facebook with whatever happened at school that day and then she makes a bunch of tweets about it. All her friends and followers are her friends at school and they all do the same thing. They spent the day at school together then go home and tell each other about it on Facebook and Twitter as if they weren't there when it happened.
