Bitcoin Foundation ordered to cease operations in California

Bitcoin Foundation Receives Cease And Desist Order From California.

"It's an odd development, since the Foundation doesn't actually perform any wire transfers."

Ok so USA does not want anyone to touch or even "talk about" bitcoins. Perhaps Bitcoins will be more successful in China or Russia or Kenya and the such?

I think it'll turn into the same as most other "alternative" currencies.

"Land of the free" :helpme

I wonder what the Heritage Foundation think of this. They like "freedom of economy" but are they willing to risk their own power/income?

The only freedom left in most of the world, is the freedom to choose one of the alternatives the system have given you.

500000 types of consumer goods, but you can only use our money to buy it. And don't you even dare TRY to barter the goods.

based on your saying over 2 years ago bitcoin was worthless and would never add up to much, i don't put any credence in your view.

exactly. a common-sense view.

it's california, i.e., it's a clusterfuck. the fact they targeted a non-profit foundation that does not transact btc is revealing.

moreover, re: btc specifically, it's an innovative tech achievement, it simly needs to align itself with the rules, just like with the fincen rulings.

cough cough cough cough

america has so much fucking bylaws and BS that if you call that much regulation freedom, then I'm the easter bunny :)

(or you haven't really experienced freedom yet)

AllAboutCams 06-24-2013 06:29 AM

Nothing will happen

adultmobile 06-24-2013 06:38 AM

My guess: the bitcoin foundation will move to another US state; until get a letter there too, then move in another state. If each state takes a month to figure and send the letter, they have 50 months, a few years of time, before to move to iceland or sant marteen island. Or north korea.

dyna mo 06-24-2013 06:46 AM

the foundation is not even in california, this story is more about the clusterfuck called california than about bitcoin.

this is a state that figured out its budget last year based on imaginary taxes from the, at the time, upcoming facebook ipo.

pimpmaster9000 06-24-2013 07:19 AM

bitcoins are so convenient! WOW! look this north korean plastic lighter repair man accepts bitcoins in his street gutter card board box "shop"...dead rat kebap with every lighter free!

miss dirtyF and his WSO bullshit :1orglaugh

dyna mo 06-24-2013 07:24 AM

had to goog wso

"WSO" may stand for:
World Salvation Organisation World-Wide, political justice institution.
World Salvation Order World-Wide.
Waltham Symphony Orchestra in Waltham, Massachusetts, United States.
Washabo Airport (IATA code WSO) in Washabo, Suriname

West Sussex Opera in Chichester, West Sussex, United Kingdom
Wheeling Symphony Orchestra in Wheeling, West Virginia, United States
Wichita Symphony Orchestra in Wichita, Kansas, United States
Wiener Schule für Osteopathie in Vienna, Austria
Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

no wonder dirtyF isn't posting, he's busy with wso bullshit!

Klen 06-24-2013 07:53 AM

Lol it just crazy how people missing a common sense. So one individual entity shut another individual entity and sudden bitcoin which is worldwide entity is closed.Even if bitcoin in Usa is officially outlawed,it mean shit,as bitcoin is not usa based, nor it's centralized system.

jscott 06-24-2013 01:29 PM

KlenTelaris, ya that's why so many dumbfucks here.

USA really got them by the balls, lots of zombie brainwashed dumb asses in these BTC threads, it's really funny (but also sad)

America, I really love my country, but really sucks to see our governments really take advantage of that term "Land of the Free" :(

_Richard_ 06-24-2013 01:33 PM

so the foundation does no money transfers, but gets a cease and desist order to stop money transfers?

government fuck up or oppression? cause this really looks like a misuse of legal channels for oppression

Webmaster Advertising 06-24-2013 01:40 PM

The reason, IMHO they got a C&D is because so many idiots on the BTC forums are telling new businesses to become foundation members thinking that offers some kind of 'protection' against scams.

There are countless threads on the main BTC boards by moderators and admins telling people 'get signed up with the BF' to show people you are legit... Its stupid.

I can see the potential why some idiot in California would have C&D's the foundation for that reason along, confusing it with something that *actually* mattered on the grand scheme of things.

Oh and for the record, I'm the foundation DOES to wire transfers of BTC because that is how they want their 'membership dues' and foundation donations to be paid.

Funny as the opposite now: you have a legit business? join the bitcoin foundation and you become illegal :)

Ok so bitcoins being "seized" like US dollars...

Users Bitcoins Seized by DEA:
http://letstalkbitcoin.com/post/5370...-seized-by-dea

From official doc:
http://www.forfeiture.gov/pdf/DEA/Of...tification.pdf

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Department of Justice, gives notice that the property listed below was seized for forfeiture pursuant to 21 U.S.C. § 881, because the property was used or acquired as a result of a violation of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. §§ 801 et seq.):

DISTRICT OF SOUTH CAROLINA
13-DEA-581051, 11.02 Bitcoins, Acct.#1ETDwGUC1QcjYuehFr3u1FD3MvDaUs7SFy,
VL: $814.22 which was seized in Charleston, SC from Eric Daniel Hughes AKA Casey Jones on April 12, 2013

So DEA got own bitcoin account - and empties your bitcoin wallet after they seized the your pc and/or tortured you to get the password :)

More likely to be a sting where they accept money in return for something illegal, and do not return the money.
