I always have to do it manually beyond the first paragraph where it is automatically inserted by typing "QUOTE" and "/QUOTE" in brackets to break up the original poster's text when I make a reply to various parts of their post. I see the button to turn it on, but it never works for me. Am I missing something obvious?

Multiquote is for quoting multiple posts, not breaking up an individual post into parts.
Yes I've always had to do that manually as well. I'm so used to it I never thought of starting a thread about it, it just is.

Maybe I'm confused about the purpose of multi-quote. How does one reply to various paragraphs of a single poster's original post? I don't want to quote multiple people. I want to reply like this without cutting and pasting the QUOTE and close QUOTE brackets manually:
My reply
More of my reply
Even more of my point-by-point reply.

[QUOTE=_Richard_;19686336]sorry, for a single post, but 'multiple quotes' for that single post, you'd have to do it manually
however just c&p'ing "

Holy shit, that is fucking lame. So when one wants to reply point by point or paragraph by paragraph and break it up so your replies to a single poster is formatted nicely and readable, one has to do what I have been doing all along by cutting and pasting the "QUOTE" and "/QUOTE" in brackets manually each time? I figured I was doing it the hard way, lol.

[QUOTE=_Richard_;19686374]no they are literally taking the time to discuss point by point.. again the cut and paste of "

Yes, you are confused, I know of no way to automatically do what you are trying to accomplish.
