In my previous experience any service is better than Virgin Media. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

LOL, yeah it's easy. especially as most people don't change the default password on their router! ;) But in my case, I have permission. :) I got into a dispute with my original ISP when I moved house and they demanded that I took their phone package as well if I wanted to be reconnected to the net - fuck that, I'm not going to be blackmailed into taking a service I don't want.

My brother is an engineer for a company that has an exclusive contract with Virgin Media, he says if he didn't get employee discounts on their service, he'd be with Sky. When I lived in Scotland I started out with Sky at home but then moved to Virgin, if I ever move back I'd only get Sky.

Jel 07-05-2013 07:43 AM

been with sky, bt, o2, and virgin, and virgin is hands down the best provider.

Sky - they couldn't pay me enough to ever deal with again, total, utter, complete fuckwits. BT aren't as bad as Sky - nobody could be imo, and virgin are still wankers (£250 to change address on a business account - yeah fuck off), o2 best customer service but they just don't have the infrastructure for a decent connection, but like I say, virgin = best connection/speeds by a country mile, and best of a customer-service-is-shit bunch.

Do you have to have their phone service as part of the package too ?

I have 2 phone lines for when in the UK with BT for calls, but both had separate ISP provider who gave great speeds - well great considering how far that house is from the town/exchange.

Now Sky bought out the small company who were the ISP, they're already throttling it a bit, so gotta change. (Getting bombed with Sky bloody offers daily too  )

Who you suggest after all your trials and experiments (on a private road, so none of them can or will lay cable :( ).

Thanks any input :thumbsup

Virgin deliver the best speeds, but their customer service is shit. Got tired very quickly being on hold to some 3rd world imbecile, while they worked out what they should do next.

I'm with Sky now, but their speeds aren't great. Hoping I can get Sky Fibre soon.

BT seem to he pushing their shit everywhere lately...

how long ago was that with virgin mate? I speak to an English resident when I call them - had to upgrade the hub thingo a couple of months back - painless.

Sky - wait until you move, and they absolutely fuck everything up, then try taking you to court for a bill they generated because they failed to send your final bill, so cancel the cancellation (I shit you not), all the while offering you 3 months TV if you'll go back to them, and sending emails with no opt-out link.

I cannot even begin to convey how inept they are, and all because of a problem they caused - computer says no is their MO.

Works out cheaper to have a phoneline than not iirc with Virgin. No cable though, so honestly, toss a coin for BT and whoever else, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't warn you to stay as far away from Sky as you can.

They're a bit like godaddy - lots of people say how great they are, but if you're one of the ones who gets a (far from uncommon) problem, you are stone cold fucked. Take or leave the advice, but do not touch Sky with your worst enemies 10 foot bargepole :2 cents:

I never had one issue with Sky at all, I only had them for my TV package now that I think of it, I had Virgin for my internet, had far more issues there and as Scott points out, anytime you call, you are talking to someone in India or the Philippines and support is terrible.

Maybe its a regional thing, I dunno but for TV, IMO Sky is the best by a long long way.

Jel 07-05-2013 09:57 AM

yeah for TV sky is best I agree, but as an ISP (and just wait until they fuck something up, whether it's a move, or a package change, or whatever - they fuck up eventually, which is fine, nobody is infallible - just that they don't solve THEIR fuckup professionally at all), Sky are fucking wank, fact!!! <--- so it must be true :D

*To add for British sweary Maryness: cunts, wankers, shitsuckers, etc*

Was roughly 2 years or so. Virgin was great when it worked, but fucking terrible when it didn't. Like you say though, maybe some things have changed since then.

I always seem to get our local Sky centre when I call them. Which helps a lot...

Scott McD 07-05-2013 10:12 AM

BT are really pushing their new broadband service, mostly because they have the new sports channels to go with it, which are free if you take the broadband.

Not sure if it's worth the change though...

It IS worth it...

If you want stats n such, ? iikepoo @ ilikepoo dot com..

But trust me... Virgin? 30 or so MBS... Me? 70+ mbs... :)

OK - many thanks mate - got it loud and clear - sounds a bit like talk-talk were when they first started back when I was in uk a lot more, fucking nightmare that was.
I will have to get one of the 'kids' to see if there's any contract period either or both the current BT phone-lines.
I know the calls are free up to an hour, so I'm guessing there is - just hope it's only on one of them.

Appreciate the big warning signs re Sky though :thumbsup

Aaahh - just got the Virgin result, no cable, so broadband alone at a snail pace (4 up 1 down due to location :Oh crap ) is 17 quids a month.
As I recall Be-Unlimited are about 14 quid monthly per line for what will be the same speed;
I bet a pound to a pinch of shit Sky will kill them completely when they 'converted' enough 'old' customer contracts though :helpme
