.

O MARINA 07-06-2013 10:13 AM

sarettah send me test message :pimp

Dankasaur 07-06-2013 10:14 AM

Got your test message.

globofun 07-06-2013 10:17 AM

Stop sending me messages

baddog 07-06-2013 10:22 AM

Great, now everyone is using it . . . way to go. :(

onwebcam 07-06-2013 10:23 AM

I guess they finally realized that having people check their messages increases traffic?

Eric 07-06-2013 10:24 AM

This will be turned on shortly. This was turned on in error for everyone.

The idea will be to allow it's use for those over a certain post count to keep the spam to a minimum.

L-Pink 07-06-2013 10:25 AM

Private insults sent to everyone

Eric, seriously? It going to be exclusionary to "post count". I would hope registration information would factor in. A lot of people, including myself, don't spend a lot of time on boards, certainly not post whoring on commenting on everything just to raise a post count. Some of us would rather come here, get what we need accomplished and then get on with life.

Mine isn't working anymore so I can't see Dankasaur's reply to me :(

Do I not have enough messages to be priveleged ? I guess I'll just have to start making a whole bunch of BS posts in order to reach the threshhold ;p

Lol. I tried to send you a test but it said that you don't allow private messages, had to send to Dankasur instead (I was just guessing at who might actually accept and reply to a message from me)

But now mine isn't working. I saw that Dank had answered, told it to open in a new window but it never opened and now PMs are gone from my User panel. :(

I just don't rate I guess.

Heh, you've been here since nearly the beginning of GFY. But you're not a post whore or sig whore.

I find it interesting that "privileges" seem to be extended towards a handful of people who offer value and experience while also rewarding those who who troll, contest whore, sig whore and post whore in their almighty bid to get a green nick.

It is an interesting way of assessing a member's value.

baddog 07-06-2013 10:41 AM

It doesn't look like I have enough posts either.

The message from Robwood has been ignored because of his low postcount.
Sorry bout that.

PornDiscounts-V 07-06-2013 10:45 AM

Post count? What about people who have been here doing work and not whoring?

PornDiscounts-V 07-06-2013 10:47 AM

Perhaps another check for pre 2006? Which is right about when the trolls came in bigger numbers.

Eric 07-06-2013 10:48 AM

Let me clarify...

Private messaging was accidently turned on... It is back off

Post count will be around 100. Enough to weed out the people who come here, make an account and then try to spam private messaging. This number may even be lower. So those of you thinking that the post count number will be in the 1000s that is just not the case.

In the end we are trying to make this an option that will allow you all to do and create more business between each other and protect you from having to deal with a constant level of spam.

I think the cut off should be anyone who joined prior to November 1, 2002.

That would cover all the important people. :thumbsup

robwod 07-06-2013 10:54 AM

Eric: Interesting, nice to see that this is a spam preventative method and not a post-count incentive. Nicely done. A lot of communities place far too much emphasis on post count -- GFY included -- so it is certainly refreshing in the way you are doing it.

WoW! 07-06-2013 10:57 AM

Was waiting for this a long long time.

Set it so they need at least 1k posts to send private messages.

stashnetwork 07-06-2013 11:12 AM

ok so now i gotta spam

signupdamnit 07-06-2013 11:17 AM

You might also want to make it 7-30 days account age too in order to protect yourself from spammers registering and making 100 automated posts and then flooding everyone with PMs non-stop.

Already set to 30 days

PornDiscounts-V 07-06-2013 11:56 AM

Ah. In that case 100 is bare minimum. And 30 days is very small in that regard. My magic number would be 42. It is the answer for everything. I guess the posts could be 42 as well. Then limit them to 42 per day and if 42 people mark one as spam that could be a way to auto-ban.

Ferus 07-06-2013 12:56 PM

Good news!
Not that I need the function right now, but it was something I have had the use for before.

LOL, it was funny how people with thounsand(s) of messages were concerned if their post count would be enough. I mean its obviously that number would be low when speaking about cutting off drive by spammers.

That would limit majority of people making it semi useless tool. No actual business would be done when you could message only few most established members. Not even sure if this was meant to be serious suggestion...

100 is bare maximum. Almost no spammer would create 100 messages so that he could send pms (and get caught anyway).
50 would be more than enough.
