my grandfather used to cross the sava river every winter because it would freeze over every single year when he was young...my mother used to ice skate on the save ariver almost every winter because, when she was a child, it froze over almost every winter...during my life time the river has frozen over only 1 time and it was 38 years ago...that's 3 generations

when I was a kid, my home town had 1.5 meters of snow for about a month and then another month of knee deep snow every year...as a kid I spent almost every winter digging tunnels in the snow that would stay "functional" for weeks...now I'm grown up the snow is a few cm deep for a few days and is gone...once every few years it snows up to the knees for a week and is gone...nothing like before...much shorter and warmer winters...

the summers have always been hot...cant say that its much hotter...but the winters have definitively changed...no doubt at all...

I think it is clear and obvious that the climate is in a warmer trend right now. There is no denying that.

The question is whether or not we humans have affect on that. To me it is pretty simple. If we clean up our act, make a cleaner better environment and reduce the amount of potentially damaging emissions and it turns out we were wrong and it doesn't affect the weather, oh well, at least we still have a cleaner, nicer planet to live on.

If we ignore it and we turn out to be wrong the consequences could be great.

This doesn't mean I support crazy carbon taxes and scams of that nature, but more an overall effort to make a cleaner, better planet.

The problem is cleaning up our act is expensive. Carbon taxes as a whole are not a scam. Carbon taxes are theoretically what would pay to clean the earth up.

It won't be cheap no matter which route we take, but the alternative is to do little or nothing and hope we are right and everything will be fine. If we are wrong it could be catastrophic.

"Homo" has existed for 200,000 years, 50,000 as homo sapiens, 5000 as civilized homo sapiens. all those trillions of people had no tech. but survived ice ages, famines, plagues. so why is there such hand wringing about warming when humans have proved marvelously adaptable to their climates?

& for BFT3K. the earth once had 1000 ppm of CO2, no ice at either pole, basically a planetary jungle. but somehow, there were no oil companies & greedy companies 60 million years ago. how did the earth get so hot without them? even worse, the earth cooled to current levels. What happened that made the earth cool? as the answer does not conform with your fetish for hating corporations, im certain you will not bother to look into it.

Well, a few things I can think of. If the polar ice caps fully melt, or melt most of the way, the ocean levels could raise and flood the coastlines and islands. This won't happen overnight so, in theory, we could have time to get people out of there. If the globe continues to warm we could find ourselves in a situation where there is less fresh water and the warmer climate with less fresh water could make food harder to grow. If the ocean temperature rises too much it could kill off much of the sea life that we eat reducing available food sources even more. There are also those that speculate that a hotter climate could cause more adverse weather. If we have to leave the coasts and move to the middle of he country and that area is constantly pounded by various storms, tornadoes, hurricanes etc. it could be a shitty situation.

We likely won't die, at least not all of us, but it could make life on the planet much more difficult and crowded.

Yes, we have been around for a long time and we have adapted to the climate, but not until recently have we been pumping tons upon tons of pollutants into the air and water so future climate changes could end up being unlike anything we have seen in the past.

Current projections predict an average rise in temperature anywhere between 2 - 4 degrees Celsius in the next 50 years, this equates to 35 -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think that simply means better gardens for your kids?

Meanwhile the U.S. military is spewing carbon all over the world and the politicians AND the "climate change" scientists ride around in big SUV's and limousines and private airplanes to their ice cold office buildings.

The trouble is that the climate change evangelists push it like it's a religion, and I think that puts people off from investigating the science. For example, David Attenborough believes that climate change is real, but the organization he makes programs for (BBC) had made its mind up a long time previously, and it wasn't on the basis of scientific evidence.

I don't know what it's like in the American media, but the BBC is constantly harping on about climate change, and pushing climate change stories artificially high in the news. It almost seems like a cult at times, an oath that they all swear allegiance to.
