Home Security Setups - What Do You Have?
Right now we have a couple of IP cameras setup outside (2 on front of house and 1 in back yard) and a decent alarm system on the doors, windows and other potential entry/exit points of the house.
We can control everything through our smart phones including the cameras and can even automagically record the camera feed when there is movement in a certain zone. Do you folks have any special / fancy home security systems in place? |
Um, If I were you I wouldn't everyone on a public forum the type of security you have and how it is controlled.
Yikes. |
Last year a crack head told me she had a snake in her house and she would throw it on a mother fucker if they ran up in there. :pimp
|
I used to have a great watchdog but a few years ago she said fuck it I'm old and decided to retire. Lol I think it's selective hearing because she can hear the refrigerator open from across the house. But I don't think she cares if my shit gets stolen anymore.

Live in Chicago who needs security :1orglaugh

1) My username 2) My password 3) The phone number on the account 4) The email on the account 5) Where we record and save the video at 6) How to gain access to my security control panel (with another username and password) Shit, half the time I cant even remember the login when I'm out. Idiot. |

For the record, the security system is above and beyond the insurance, think if it as an additional layer of protection thanks to all the signage our house plastered on the windows and in the front yard :winkwink: |

I hated having to inventory all the shit we have here, serial numbers, purchase prices, receipts, images... Took us close to a week to have every electronic device or item of value catalogued, was definitely time well spent though. |

Besides renters insurance and video camera setups, I recommend a heavy-ass safe. It's the only sure way to actually keep your valuables in your possession.

No matter how heavy a safe is, a decent crowbar and a big enough dude with a dolly will be able to move it if it isn't secured, once its out of your possession they have all the time in the world to figure out how to get the contents of it out. We do have one of those fire-proof safes though with copies of important docs in it, home title, car insurance, birth certificates, SSI cards, passports, etc... The originals are all kept at our local banks safety deposit facility. |

We're in the process of getting a foreclosure property right now and we're most likely going to end up fully kitting it out as our primary home (and renting where we're at presently) so this next time around I'm hoping its going to be an easier task too :) |

Right now we're still undecided but we both agree the benefits when it comes to security of fenced in yards and front gates are definitely worth the extra $ spent, the problem we're having is actually deciding on the type of fencing/gate to go with, she wants metal/wrought iron and I want traditional picket fencing. |

This is what ours looks like. I've replaced those stupid bushes the previous owners of the house planted with thuja's so the fense is covered from the inside and doesn't look as bad as it does here. |
In FL security cameras/DVRs and alarm system have both cellular back up and and solar charging system for extended power outages. every exterior entrance and window is wired although they are hurricane proof so you can't break in easily, interior doors, drawers, floors and electronics have sensor traps.
Extra hurricane shutters with locks on the inside if the SHTFs. Simple alarms in TN and NY. I used to be in the alarm biz and I had tons of spare parts. Since I did all the labor it was a fun project. |
I live on 20 acres of my farm then about 250 acres on the farm that backs up to mine.
Buy the time you walked up the roads to my house, You'd be in need of a glass of water and to sit down for a bit to rest.... |

I kinda like being robbed, at least when they take my computers and stereo equipment. Provides a nice free upgrade of all my equipment just about the time they are starting to get out of date.:winkwink:
Only trouble is the insurance company didn't like it (first was robbed, then after that stuff was replaced I had a major lightning strike that destroyed almost everything that was plugged into the wall), so now they have raised my house deductible to $5000. |
I live in a village of 30 people ontop of a mountain, there are 7 mastiffs in the village who will go mental if anyone they do not know turns up.

That's honestly my primary concern with going the metal route, don't want our home to look like Fort Knox :1orglaugh |
I have a couple of these.
http://bossip.files.wordpress.com/20...pg?w=635&h=427 also an alarm and wait for it. A Mother in law that I leave home most of the time. ! |

I honestly like the fort knox look. I'd love to have a 2 meter concrete fense around my property. Would feel very "private". The next house we build we're gonna do that. |
and before you ask about the drunk, i don't have a recording and he yells at it in polish anyways...mostly "you think you're so fucking smart?" "i'll fucking show you" and stuff like that

Motion sensors (with timers) on bright lights around the property. Infrared beans set inside the property line but well beyond the entrance points and the house itself can trigger lights and alarms. Alarm siren that is can offer both the noise and a prerecorded message. Solar/battery backup on everything that is powered by electricity. |
Im working on building a version of this beast which will be remotely controlled from my iPhone. One to patrol the land and one for the house..

I have a silhouette target on the front window with a bunch of bullet holes in it
At the bottom it reads, "Burglars wanted, inquire within" |
I take home security very seriously; My worst fear is someone snatching my kid. Just yesterday at a campground on the outside of town someone tried to grab an 11 year old girl - every parent's worse nightmare.
A few months I decided to upgrade my security system myself. As you would expect, I fucked everything up and had to call in the alarm company. They fixed my improvements and added in some new tricks. I also installed motion sensor lights front and back, and of course I have a dog who never ever barks unless there is something odd going on outside. My dog is great - I can walk past her in the hall at 3am and she won't wake up, but if we have a guest in the house she'll go crazy. |

I keep a baseball bat by my bedside.
That's it... |
The easiest way to deploy a security camera system is with https://www.dropcam.com/
Multiple camera support App for phone or ipad Cloud based DVR mean offsite storage. If internet is down it stores on the camera then transmits to online DVR when web is back up. I love it. |

To me, wrought iron and metal fencing/gates etc. unless living in a huge McMansion just don't make any sense and I much rather prefer the more traditional, minimal styles aesthetically at least. |

cameras. Still didn't found time to connect it on mobile phone and you reminded me to do that today. But, I need them because I have tons of cats coming and pissing on my car so when I see them jumping on it, I run like mad from house to scare them. I've managed to catch one and drove it far away, but it seems that they are replicating and I am loosing battle in this moment. There are some new cats so stupid that they don't understand I am hostile, and they remain sitting on car until last moment when I approach.Very fucked up situation.
