Are Directories Helpful?

I ran across a few sites talking about using adult directories for building backlinks however, I also read that backlinks are only good if they are one-way and that reciprocal links aren't that useful. :helpme Thanks in advance.

You will find that most adult "directories" require a reciprocal link, thus reducing the overall value of the backlink. I generally consider any site that requires a reciprocal link to be of little or no value, as there are plenty of other sites out there that do not require them.

I know there are a ton of sites and people out there claiming to know the answer to increasing your search rank, but the truth is that the engines are getting smarter everyday and what might work today will probably punish you tomorrow. There simply isn't a shortcut to unique, quality content and a well-aged site.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was a little confused as that didn't make sense to me. I generally don't believe what I see or read unless I have multiple sources saying the same thing.

That is a smart way to operate...:thumbsup

what's stopping you from using a third site to place the recip link making it an abc link?
most directories will allow this.

Thanks Tent Pitcher.
pinkz, I never thought about doing that and I didn't know they allowed that. Will give it a try.

I'm not doubting you, but most of the directories that I have seen require the specific URL being listed in the directory to contain the reciprocal link. I would think an "abc" link would kind of be counter to the purpose of a reciprocal network.

Learn something everyday! :thumbsup

abc with a blogger site, that's what everyone tries to submit to my sites lol.

Got listed on DMOZ and that's the last directory I ever visited. As far as I can tell, they are pointless.

My problem with most directories is they want a link from your index page and they only offer links from some sub page on the site.
