Windows 8.1

Installed in my other computer it seems pretty good but the speed when you boot Windows 8 much more faster. Have you tried it yet?

Va2k 07-17-2013 09:03 AM

I have it on my other lap top and love it. Cant wait to get my laptop back from support. I spilled my drink on it and fried it, thank god I had that type of protection that they fix it even if it is your fault!

Rochard 07-17-2013 09:11 AM

I'm still on seven. We have a laptop that runs 8, hate it. Pass.

alex.missyouth 07-17-2013 10:34 AM

Haven't tried it and never will, sorry.

I have windows 8...how do I upgrade to 8.1? Is it in a windows update or something? I don't see it listed as "8.1" on the microsoft site.

Dankasaur 07-17-2013 10:50 AM

I have Windows 8 in a VM for testing on IE10+ and I dislike it. Hopefully they improved a lot in 8.1.

Serious-Partner 07-17-2013 10:57 AM

Win 8.1 is great but IE 11 doesn't work on 32bit.. looks like some troubles with sony vaio drivers - will re-install tomorrow

yeah stay with windows 7. windows 8 without the patch is just so awkward because your boot up screen is like a tiled layout with more tiles over to the far right you have to drag over, just awkward.

i might get a windows phone though, does anyone here have a windows phone with the windows 8 os? are they worth the money?

The Nokia 1020 should be fine to record porn stuff with its 41MP camera and runs under Windows Phone 8.

Crazy Enough 07-17-2013 03:43 PM

I will wait for the final version to test, but I have to say that it will be hard to beat Windows Seven. That Metro interface is not good for PCs, only for tablets.

2MuchMark 07-17-2013 06:20 PM

Lol, windows...

JockoHomo 07-17-2013 07:15 PM

I am sticking with 7 and if they don't make 8 a productive OS then I am going to switch to a Mac! I am not going to give them money while they play catch up and try to corner the desktop and tablet market with a mutant and OS!

wait until the official version of 8.1 is out. You'll have to reinstall all apps if you move from 8 to 8.1 preview to 8.1 final. 8.1 will RTM very soon, by the end of August for sure and you'll be able to download it from the Windows store

so you're gonna spend even more on a desktop and completely re-learn your main OS (OSX is quite different) because....? :1orglaugh

Windows 7 is good enough. Windows 8 is a transitional release aimed at touch-first devices

You probably are one of the ass clowns who said Windows XP for life.

If he said that, why would he be on Windows 7 and not XP still? :upsidedow

Well, it's a good excuse for that big monitor I have always needed but could never justify buying for one...

Also, knowing computers from the days of DOS I am quite sure that the GUI of OSX will not be such a steep learning curve that it would cause me much pain. :)

I had never been more happy with my computer since I ditched Windows and went to Linux, then moved to OS X... 10 years on Windows... 1 on Linux 2 on OS X. :thumbsup

VikingMan 07-17-2013 10:48 PM

WTF?!!!!! I thought that the way to upgrade a Windows product was to count down not count up. I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7. :helpme

leg4 07-17-2013 11:12 PM

Did not realize it was out, going to try it now.

Thanks.

clickhappy 07-18-2013 12:21 AM

Just looking at the preview, hate it already. it looks like the type of computer that will make decisions for you and complicated as fuck to customize it the way you want.

I Love windows 7

EddyTheDog 07-18-2013 01:21 AM

I got it the day it came out - It's a complete operating system install like 7 to 8...

The big news is I have a new icon on the task bar to get to the start screen - Seriously, that's it.....

Under the hood - Who knows...

NinjaSteve 07-18-2013 02:27 AM

I like Windows 8. I don't mind that it takes me to the metro style screen on start up so I can see some tickers before everything is done loading. I don't care about the start button because I have shortcuts to apps that I use (on the desktop version) stuck my metro screen. I haven't been able to pin a shortcut to a file though but that's not important. I'll wait until 8.1 final is out before upgrading to it.
