you do not provide enough info about the setup.

6x9's are terrible, speakers are meant to be round, not oval, squares, or triagles. Get yourself some MDF mounting rings and put some 6" or 5 1/4's in there with a 1" tweet in the kick panel or stock tweeter location. If you get a high watt speaker u need a high watt amplifier. Its actually bad to also under power a speaker as well as overpower it. Give me your budget and what your working with and I can put together a great SQ (sound quality) setup.

Rockford Fosgate makes some pretty great speakers.

Nothing wrong with 6x9 if the speakers are good and developed for the application. Sound is not round, so it doesn't matter as long as they are designed properly.

I was always a fan of MB Quart. But, I do not know how they are now a days.

Jbl gto are round one nt oval. I spoke to audio store and they recommend Hertz ecx165.5 enerygy series over jbl...

100£ is the budget...

i'm pretty sure sound moves away from it's origin in a round pattern....

Sound is round. Theres is not one example of a Sound Competition competitor (not sound pressure level) who uses oval or square speakers. You wont find them. Why, because they do not produce quality sound.

For something over the counter, JL Audio, Diamond, (CDT, Dynaudio, DLS) - my 3 favs Dynaudio being the best with DLS in a close second. CDT's are a great deal for the money as are Diamond S600 Components.

my last 2 speaker configs were mb quart and jl audio. the mb quarts sounded absolutely sublime- i mean perfect. they are fragile though. the jl audio were simply fucking badass for cranking loud. they stayed crystal clear all the way up to my ~2000 watts amps clipping. they were not as nuanced though, as the mb quarts

so for me, if i want normal level volumes for playing pretty much everything in general, i'd snag another mb quart rig, if i want a rolling 108db holy crap that cranks rig! , i'll snag the jl audio.

decisions!

158.3 DB with my old setup. 2x 12" Image Dynamics Max Subs, DLS Iridiuim Components (front stage only, no rear speakers. true stereo is only front stage speakers and sub), Zapco 9.0, 6.0, and 2.0 amplifiers, 25 farad capacitor, 250amp custom wound alternator, and 2x optima yellow top batteries. Then about 2-3 layers of dynamat/sludge throughout the car for rattles/sound deadening.

!!!

i would be very interested in hearing this system man! is this in the g35? what kind of tunage do you play? i wonder what the loudest musically is i've ever experienced, i doubt it's close to 158db. i know top fuel dragsters are in the 165db-ish range and that's some of the loudest shit i've ever enjoyed.

big fan of super loud but very clear systems! can the contests measure clarity these days or just magnitude?

There is SQ (sound quality) and SPL (sound pressure level) Competitions...I competed in the SQ aspect. Everything in SQ is based on points, your install must be documented, wire ties every 6", ect. You must also so a sound pressure level test for points where they will play a "Burp" or "bass sweep"...I had my system tuned to a specific frequency for this test, i would play a 2-3 second "Burp" of this frequency and get points in my SQ class based on how high the pressure level went. The next aspect is points based on the actual quality of sound. A special CD is played in your car with the judge who marks down points. This was in an Infiniti I30 4 Door sedan. Ill see if I can get some pics, this was way back when digi cams first made their debut haha
