Which bank do you recommend?
Do you also know one that will do it without having to open an account?

Not exactly, some banks don't do it, and in others the fee is quite high (10EUR+)
I'm sure someone already looked around and knows the perfect place. :)

Usually the cheapest is 10EUR or 1% (which is the higher amount) and a few weeks waiting time.. I think these guys did paid out checks for a high fee on hand: http://www.koba.sk/en/index.shtml , but I'm not sure if they do it anymore.. At other banks you need to have an account first..

I only know of just 1 or 2 banks that actually do that. Takes 2-3 weeks and I think you need an account.

VUB.sk is the one I use, if I need to cash a check

Checks = nightmare
