Yet another long weekend in Canada, because that's how we roll
 

Simply known as the August Long Weekend. A long weekend for no apparent reason than just to have one, shoved into the year where none should exist... oh wait, it's EXACTLY where one should exist, right in the middle of summer. Hello?

Anyway beautiful day out. I think I'll head over to the parents and have dinner with them. Maybe cut the old man's grass for him. Traffic will be light, BECAUSE IT'S A LONG WEEKEND HERE.

Spain does that in the middle of August.
Which, considering only 30% of the population works and 95% of them are on holiday in August.. seems a waste of a day off.

We used to abbreviate it on our shift schedule as VD - until employees started crackin' penicillin jokes.

Victoria Day is May 24th. aka the May Two-Four weekend.

The August holiday is simply called a "Civic Holiday". First Monday in August.
Quebec doesn't get it because we get St-Jean Baptiste in June.
