I lied about switching to Mac.

I think it is about time. Air Book is on the way.

I apologize for the hypocrite I've been.

I am also thinking about iPhone. Have used Android exclusively but time to shake things up.

My world has turned upside down. I have no backbone. Another die hard PC user in the company is making the switch with me.

So for those that have them... Is battery life as long as they advertise? If the battery juice is actually there... With how small it is... I do not forsee anymore need for my Tablet.

AdultKing 08-08-2013 02:07 AM

My iPhone 5 lasts all day and I use it alot.

Casio22 08-08-2013 03:26 AM

My macbook air's battery lasts much longer than my 2012 macbook pro.

i have always used apple products and always been disappointed in their batteries, but what ever they have done.. it works

fuzebox 08-08-2013 03:46 AM

For the average user a Mac definitely makes sense.

Why? I use a Mac and see people say this all the time. I have no clue what it means or why it's the "truth".

L-Pink 08-08-2013 06:45 AM

I went with mac back in 1998-99 when video and photo editing was a nightmare on pc's. No way I would ever change. Currently have macpro, iMac and phone.

The OS on macs are much nicer to use, people are only put off because nearly everyone starts using PC's and people don't like change.

But i have been using macs of everything for years and wouldn't change. i tried windows 8 and it looked like a kids fisher-price toy.

Dankasaur 08-08-2013 10:24 AM

I've been using Mac exclusively for 2 years now after 10 years on Windows and 1 year on Linux. I wouldn't go back to anything else. :2 cents:

they're fun machines, however the 'cult tax' isn't so great

Not sure what this is... I paid less than $2500 total for a 21.5" iMac with RAM upgrade to 32GB, and a 13" MacBook Pro.

It's not so much a tax as it is an investment in something that's more intuitive, more productive and lasts twice as long as a PC. I made the switch last year and want to shoot myself in the face every time I have to crank up my old PC. I used to argue with friends for YEARS about why I should spend the extra money, that I could be just as productive with my PC ... blah, blah, blah. You either get it or you don't. You have either spent any significant amount of time using one or you haven't. Maybe you just simply put your foot down and choose not to conform to the non-conformists ... It basically comes down to that.

What does "nicer to use" actually mean? I use OSX mostly, some Windows and some Ubuntu Linux.

They all do pretty much the same thing and none of that are all that different from the next.

Paying 3x the cost because something is "nicer" seems pretty retarded to me. Especially when NOBODY can actually prove what is "nicer" about them.

But being the same dead horse beating hater is better? :upsidedow
How about you make your own decisions and not what "the masses" on either side say?

I have a Mac Book Air.

SICK!! Battery life is crazy long. Got the 13 inch, 500 gig. I use it on set location and to capture and FTP when im on location and in Hotels. Very good machine.

My iMac, Mack Book Pro 17, Mack Air and IPhone are all synced up. And the absolute best thing, is when I turn any of them on, they work. Priceless!

They may cost more, but they work.

Just Dave

I am making my own decisions and apple buy is not justified by rational means. Computers yes, in some cases can be justified, but not phones.
That looking like an isheep thing was just on top of that.

Oh, I thought this thread was about switching to Mac. Which is clearly computers as you can't run Mac OS X on a phone. :upsidedow

There are some very good reasons why the Mac beats Windows for power users.

Try any of these on your Windows PC out of the box.

1. Load up a terminal and have access to bash and the ability to run ssh terminal sessions with full VT100 compatibility.

2. Run PHP from the command line

3. Compile and run tools like ImageMagick.

To be able to do any of these things with Windows you need to add clunky add ons which may or may not work. Take heaps of time to get going and often lead to headaches. Whereas with a new Mac, I can do these things in the first two minutes of powering it up.

I laugh at people who think Windows is better, it's not.

I'm trying to decide if I should order a Macbook air or wait until the new Pros come out in October to see what they are like.

I use my iphone most of the day, and there is still juice to spare when I get home. Not to mention i stream Pandora off it in the car on the way to and back from work about (40min-1h20min) each way. If you are conscious of turning off location services on apps that you really don't need it on, turning off the wifi mode when you don't need it and setting you email to fetch instead of push you can really stretch it out.

None of those are even remotely in the ballpark of what the "average user" would need to do. EVER. :winkwink:

There was a time on this board that only Quiet and I were the only ones plugging away on our old colorful iMacs while everyone else laughed. So don't get my wrong, I was an Apple diehard, still am to an extent. I have just never gotten the blind devotion of most of their users. Most of what they say makes no sense or is applicable to any other Operating System.
