60 Minutes - Fungal Infections from 'Compounded' Medicines

If you missed the report, look it up online.
Some VERY scary facts and a strong reason to avoid compounded medications completely if at all possible.

compound rx can be great, they can also be used to reduce taking 8x pills into fewer pills.

I'm currently hiding under my bed.
I'm too scared to do ANYTHING.

Can't fuck or I'll die.
Can't eat most foods or I'll die.
Can't get drunk or I'll die.
Can't get high or I'll die.
And terrorists are apparently surrounding us ready to kill us all.

And now this fungal infection with compounded medications...I am so frightened of EVERYTHING (I am a typical United States citizen in 2013)

Did you watch the report?

People take way too many different medicines. I can't think of the last time I had any sort of prescription.

I couldn't imagine being in such bad health that I had to take so many pills that they had to combine them.

Great 60 Minutes segment.

Truly terrifying as well. After this fiasco I can see the FDA being handed regulatory control of compounded medicines again.

I think the other extreme is even more dangerous. Do you go to a doctor regularly? If i didn't and i went completely prescription free I would have been dead a few years ago. Wouldn't have felt a thing until i dropped dead in my early 30's.

I think people take too many meds and take a lot of things they can fix with diet as much as the next guy but avoiding medication just for the sake of avoiding them can be a fatal mistake too remember.

I did watch the report last night when it aired and it was pretty damn frightening. The fact that these small "strip mall" style labs have no oversight from the government might be what some people think should be happening in my country, but not me. These "mom and pop" small businesses that take on more work than they can handle against the rules laid out for them could be the death of us all. Or some of us. Even one is too many.

I also agree that we're much too eager to medicate symptoms at the drop of half a hat.

If you haven't watched the report... watch it and then come back and comment.

It was one of the few news stories I've seen reported by mainstream press in recent years that was ACTUALLY newsworthy and important.

Thanks for finding and posting the link Tom ;)

And never, repeat: NEVER, plug your nose when you sneeze. You could blow your brains out your ears.

My older brother told me that when I was a toddler. Been scared of it ever since.
