Are there actually any fast food joints

...that sell good hamburgers anymore? I rule out McDonald...Burger King and Dairy Queen which are the last three that I have tried...and basically took a bite or two...then tossed them in the garbage. Years ago I remember liking McDonald and Burger King burgers well enough...I don't recall trying Dairy Queen back in the day. I think those three are the only fast food hamburger joints in my current AO.

Five Guys

Those fries are so awesome I can't keep my hand out the bag on the way home -- and the car smells like Five Guys for a couple days after.

Never heard of Five Guys before. What state are you in?

Zoom out the map. If you have one within a few miles get in your car and get some now. You won't be sorry.

I have not heard of In and Out either. I am on the West Cost. The Pacific Ocean is three miles from me. What State are you in?

Rochard 08-22-2013 07:26 PM

Wendys has the mother fucking bacon burger on a fucking pretzel bun! Fuck yea!

purecane 08-22-2013 07:31 PM

five guys is hands down the best fast food burger...they have real fresh ground beef, and make it while you are standing there....plenty of toppings(including A-1 sauce) and their fries are cooked in peanut oil. very good. and they have boxes of peanuts at the order line for the customer to help themselves too so you can snack while waiting for your burger to cook....i hit the one in Daytona several times a month.

I liked Wendy's burgers well enough back in the day...but then again I liked MacDonalds and Burger Kings back in the day...but not anymore...their quality seems to have gone down. I don't think there is a Wendy's in my AO.

brassmonkey 08-22-2013 07:37 PM

im guessing you dont like to cook :2 cents: buy some ground beef onion mix and the buns and stuff you like on there :)

SilentKnight 08-22-2013 07:49 PM

The wife and I greatly enjoyed Johnny Rockets in Atlantic City a few years back. Ate there 4-5 times...always awesome burgers and fries.

Plus a free dancing floor show by the staff every half hour. :1orglaugh

I was going to say that somebody in California would say In and Out. I don't get why they are such a big deal but they sure are loved.

Five Guys is decent.

Pathfinder

In and out was founded in Ca so I doubt you are really in Ca if you have never heard of it as they are all over the place there

I cook for myself and my dog 99.9% of the time. I very infrequently eat out...but I did try a Dairy Queen burger with bacon since I have been back home and just like the local MacDonalds and Burger King I threw it in the garbage it was so bad.

because the meat is commercial level. go to a butcher like in a safeway or your local grocery have him grind up some beef. im going to grill some damn burgers :1orglaugh maybe over the weekend

LeeD 08-22-2013 08:38 PM

I'm not much on fast food, but Whataburger is not too bad.

mardigras 08-22-2013 09:15 PM

Only thing I ever get at McDonalds is a (rarely) Coke through the drive-through. I'd rather skip a meal and wait until I get home than eat something from most fast food joints. I can enjoy bean burritos from Taco Bell and fish sandwiches from Checkers (used to like BK fish, but was disappointed last few times).

As far as burgers, stay away from chains and find a locally owned. The worst of them will beat any chain. We used to have a place here called Dales that gave you a large hickory smoked burger that you dressed yourself from the salad bar. We have an old fashion drive in that's been here all my life and they are as popular as ever.

All I know is that I spent $16 and some change for 2 people at McDonalds the other day and that shit is out of control (I don't eat fast food much). I couldn't even finish the immitation leatherlike bloated piece of whatever in the fuck that was on a bun.

I could have sworn the request was for "good hamburgers." That being said, I heard they were about the same as In-n-Out so if they have decent fries that puts them on the top.

Total hype, IMO. People want what they cannot get; same thing used to happen with Coors.

In-n-Out only has restaurants in places that they can get their buns in fresh daily.

There are places outside of CA; they are limited to what is freeway close.

Axeman 08-22-2013 11:18 PM

Five Guys is fantastic and the best for sure. For massive chains, Wendy's is the best in my option.

Halal or kosher meat market for the beef
same for the bread

sprouts for the hatch chilies - motherfucking hatch chilies. THE BEST of New Mexico
grilled onions
your fave cheese optional melted

King Oyster mushrooms...these shrooms are exceptional...

open face or closed if you can manage.

Heaven.:2 cents:

Skip fast food restaurants. they will kill you.

the burger king $6 burger is very damn good, try and find 5 guys if you can or fatburger.

Colmike9 08-23-2013 11:57 AM

Does anyone have a Steak n Shake around? Way better than 5 guys (5Guys uses Hebrew National hot dogs, if anyone cared..)

Tom_PM 08-23-2013 11:57 AM

Can't bring myself to do other than home made with burgers and fries anymore. Usually topped with a fresh slice of tomato and onion and no condiments. Toasted home made potato roll.. damn that's good. Sweet potato fries, fresh sliced and seasoned with corn starch, olive oil, salt, pepper and chili powder in that order. hot oven, flipped once and done in 20 mins max.

Choopa_Pardo 08-23-2013 12:01 PM

White Manna in Hackensack, NJ

theking 08-23-2013 12:03 PM

The strange thing is...I lived in Baldwin Park for a very short period of timer...and according to Wikipedia, that is where In and Out first started. I have also lived in several other locations in California...attended L.A. State University for years...and I have traveled the entire state extensively. I simply do not recall ever having seen an In and Out Burger joint. I have never eaten at fast food joints very often and when I did...I mostly ate at a MacDonald or Burger King...which years ago seemed OK to me.

PiracyPitbull 08-23-2013 12:05 PM

Five guys is pretty good and depending on location they fill your fry cup and then chuck around the same quantity again in the burger bag as a bonus.

Fatburger

F-U-Jimmy 08-23-2013 12:07 PM

Fuck Fuck Fuck wish i had not read this post. Now im lusting after an In and Out burger. I fucking love their frys made with Kennebec potatoes, each burger is cooked as you order it. San Diego county had dozens of In and Outs. Tried to get them to let me own one here in Maine but no luck, guess they realized i would eat all the profits :1orglaugh

CDSmith 08-23-2013 12:22 PM

A & W for the win. I can't recall the last time I did the fast food thing but I do remember that the last Teen Burger I had was just like I remembered it from when I was a kid. Good and tasty as ever.

And people talking about healthy, you don't do drive thru for your health. At most it should be a treat, like once in a blue moon. Health shmelth.

Been a few years, I may just have to go get a feed of drivethru one of these days when I absolutely don't feel like cooking (which is rare).

Steak & Shake is pretty good; but have only seen them in flyover states.

LeRoy 08-23-2013 12:33 PM

Fat Burger, TK Burger, In-Out Burger, Unami Burger and Mr J's was a titty bar they had great burgers too.

"The Counter" they suck

SBJ 08-23-2013 01:07 PM

This thread is making me miss In and Out burger! Others that are good are Steak and Shake, Whataburger, Wendy's has a amazing Baconator, and my fav burger place here in Indiana is Culvers (ButterBurgers).

that's what baffles me too. It's fucking crap, but prices seem to increase constantly.
Everything from mcdonals sucks, except for the local burgers they make here. The standard shit like big mac, big tasty (extremely gross), the french fries... all crap.
Only the Mc Kroket and the Chicken Sate taste surprisingly good, but like i said those are local ones so unavailable in the rest of the world.

There are plenty of them where I live, they're just not giant chains.

And anyone suggesting Five Guys, hasn't had a real burger.

We have it in Tucson but that shit is horrible for you, lots of trans fats and such. I like Five Guys because they don't use anything with trans fat and their potatoes are fresh daily and they tell you where they came from that day. :)

Not that any fast food is good for you ...

arock10 08-23-2013 03:32 PM

Five guys is easily the best country wide chain. Yea it's been all over for a few years now if you hadn't noticed

Getting pricey use to be $4 something for a cheeseburger now like $7
