Apple WTF!
Apple now enables police enforcement to turn off iPhones cameras and wifi. If this becomes the norm, we might be need private phones using an open source but secure operating system where oligarchs can't control the technology you use.

Of course if anyone BUT the government did this in an area, it would be considered "terrorism" and "hacking".

I love my Android. Can do everything a iPhone can do. No dropped calls, no problems with cracked screens.
|
I'll stick with my Galaxy s4 with Android.

iPhones are for people who have never looked at another phone.

Android will follow suit too, just wait.
This is what you get for sitting back and letting the government rape you. Don't like it? Appeal the bills they are putting into place, you have a voice, so use it. To many people sit around complaining, but no one does a single thing... and the ones that do, we call them crazy. THAT is why the gov't can get away with what they want, because they know no one will do anything about it. |
Read it again.
The TITLE of the piece is "Police Now Can Switch off iPhone Camera and Wi-Fi". The article says "The developers (Apple) insist that the affected locations are normally cinemas, theaters and concert grounds". Then, Apple ADMITS that it COULD be used for covert police or government operations. Not that they will allow it, or would use it. That they COULD. But who cares? If you look at the photo, you will notice a PHOTOSHOPPED "Stop the War" sign in the background. The website is VETERANS TODAY. Do you think that maybe, this article is just trying to be oh, I don't know, a little inflammatory? A similar article appears on Live Leak: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=27f_1377120245 where they say "All the coppers have to do is decide that a public gathering or venue is deemed "sensitive", and needs to be "protected from externalities" and Apple will switch off all its gear.". Um, not true... As if Apple will take a call from a cop who says "turn off data in my location". Give me a break. At any rate, you don't need high tech to jam a phone: http://www.infostream.biz Sorry Android users... but if the cops or your next door neighbour some punk at a hockey riot want to stop you from shooting and uploading incriminating evidence of a crime in progress, they can do it with a cheap piece of hardware like this. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_VDrH1By0Ss?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I own a S4 but Android fanboism is fucking ridiculous. I think they manage to surpass early 2000's Apple user obnoxiousness.
Here are a few articles to balance out "Get Android" posts : - The NSA wrote code for Android, approved by Google. Apple does not accept source code from any government agencies. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-07-03/security-enhanced-android-nsa-edition - You might not get your camera switched off but you might lose your cc details, bank accounts.. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/08/study-finds-79-of-malware-targets-android-devices-0-7-for-ios - As soon as you log in your gmail account, or go into google play your whole online life is tracked, as a webmaster it could cost you very dearly. http://gizmodo.com/5878987/its-official-google-is-evil-now" I could go on and on, in a recent filling google says Gmail users have no expectation of privacy, etc, etc. |

I've had my Galaxy S4 about six months now...and had everything set up and running beautifully within the first hour of unboxing. Wifi control is in the pulldown on the main screen along with GPS and BlueTooth. Easy peasy. |
This has been part of Android for a while.
And it doesn't stop me from recording video and uploading it later. |

They're all the same, we're just arguing over different shades of red |
On a related note, My wife and I going to be switching away from Tmobile and going to Verizon.
We went to the store last week, and my wife goes - So, what about iphones? The Verizon guy said. "Well, if you want to pay more for a phone that does less and has hardware that is about a year behind everyone else, an Iphone is a perfect fit." Anyways I thought that was pretty funny. |
Funny thread.
GFY always seems to deliver entertainment. Have an iPhone 4s, love it. Had a an android phone and I loved it too. Switched to Iphone just to try it out and wanted to run it seamless with my Macs. Seem that everything works well together. If I had a PC, I would for sure have an Android phone. All and all, it seems that it comes down to personal taste. Cant slam one or the other if you have not owned it. Just dave |
