Most talent drive Mercedes but have no health insurance...Stupid
Recently on a shoot two talents pulled up in Mercedes, one a 600 and another in a brand new 320. I asked the girl when did you get the nice car, she said about four months ago, I said it is beautiful and she said she got a great deal and preceded to show me the agreement. The first thing I looked at was the interest rate, 22%, I THOUGHT HOLY SHIT...
It was a 5 year payoff. Mind you she has new Loubitton shoes and a Hermes bag and wearing a gold Catier watch. During the shoot we all got talking about health insurance and neither talent had any. Do you know how expensive that is the girl replied?. I said I surely do I pay $1300 a month for mine. Then I thought of how much the car is costing her.. Didn't comment. They next day while reading a few blogs I came across this. Some Excellent Financial Advice For Performers By KaydenKross August 16th, 2013 The entire piece from which this was excerpted can be read at unkrossed.com Louis Vuitton purses are retarded. That?s right. I used the r-word. So are Prada purses, Gucci, Valentino, Fendi, and every other tote bag made out of two strips of stitched-together leather embossed with a brand name and accented with some heavy zippers. Tassels are useless, useless things. If you are spending your own money on a bag meant to hold a pack of gum and a sunglasses case, then I don?t even feel bad for you making less now than you could have ten years ago with porn. If you?re just going to waste it then the dollar amount is sort of a moot point, no? Do you have ten pairs of sunglasses and did they each cost more than $500? Did you spend $2,000 on a tiny dog that doesn?t have the skull space for the necessary brain functions that might prevent it from peeing on everything? Are you the single occupant of a residence that has more than 3 bedrooms or are you the proud owner of the most expensive car you could get financed for or have you ever worked regularly and still found yourself unable to make the payments on any of these things come the first of the month? Is your boyfriend?s job somehow a derivative of your job? All porn girls can identify themselves in at least one of these descriptions. It?s understandable. We mostly come from lower socio-economic backgrounds and then suddenly there is more cash pouring in then we?ve ever seen in one place. Everything seems accessible and we want to prove that we have it. Well everything is not accessible, unless your life expectancy is 30. Mine is 94 years old according to a shitty little test I just took. Those younger than me are looking at 100. Do not delude yourself into thinking that you will ever make the kind of cash again that you will make in porn. Do not delude yourself into thinking that porn will last more than seven years for you if you?re especially tenacious. Sure, a few girls have carried strong names and actively performed for well over a decade, and a few have moved on from porn to make even more money somewhere else. But ?a few? typically means somewhere in the ballpark of the number three. You are likely not one of these three, and neither am I. Plan accordingly. Ways to plan: A) open a Scottrade account. Buy some stocks. Not sure where to start? Research the top picks at the time for the sectors you feel like you can believe in. I?m 27. I have a lot of stock in media and casino companies. That?s worked out well, as any other 27-year-old might assume by simply hearing the words ?media? and ?casino?. Buy the stock and sit on it. You are not, nor will you ever be, a day trader. But long-term and short of an apocalyptic event, if you?ve picked stocks rated ?buy? in sectors that make sense to people with common sense, you will end up ahead. Long-term does not mean six months. It means years and years and years. Never buy a stock that your buddy recommends on account of it?s ?going to blow up?. Never buy penny stocks. B) Open an IRA. You can put $5500/year into this account and not pay taxes on it now. And trust me, taxes in porn are a beast. We are typically paid our full rate in one check and then at the end of the year are upset to find that all of our taxes are due at once. Open an IRA. That?s money you don?t have to pay on now that you can invest in a second Scottrade account. Then, don?t touch that fucking IRA until every hair on your head is grey or gone. C) Buy your own place. Buy only what you can afford easily. By the time you retire you should be able to rent it out for more than you owe on it (not much more, but that number will keep going up as your mortgage stays the same). D) Save everything else. Put it in CDs or let it fester in a bank account or throw more of it into stocks as you become more knowledgeable about the market. You do not need 75 pairs of shoes, or Fendi anything, or an $80,000 car. You do not need to upgrade your seats to first class when you fly and you don?t need to prove to anyone, anywhere, that what you?re doing is right based on your ability to buy things that they cannot. Save what you make. You can pursue almost any other field after porn if you?re sitting on six figures in the bank, a retirement account, some stock investments, and your own home. On top of it you?ll be coming out thirty years ahead of most of the rest of the population that applied the same diligence. Pay your fucking taxes. Seriously. They will not be ignored. But also write off everything. Your make-up, your gym dues, your bathing suits and the shoes you need for signings and the dangly little earrings that go just right with the award-night dress and the fake eyelashes and the lube and the testing and the gas you used to drive yourself to set and the miles you racked up on your car doing it. Save the receipts. Even easier, get an American Express card and use it for all porn-related expenses and at the end of the year they?ll sort the expenses and send you the report that you can just forward to your CPA. And for fuck?s sake, use a CPA. You have no excuse not to have health insurance in porn. There is also not much of an excuse not to get the vaccines that protect against certain strains of HPV and Hepatitis. This is a job that uses your body, not your big beautiful brain. If something like a car accident takes you out and you didn?t have health insurance and now have no way of working, where does that leave you? An easy cost-competitive individual health plan can always be found at Anthem. I used to pay $116/month for it before I went to Digital Playground. That?s less than what one agent will take in commission off of one booking. No excuses. Interesting...... |
Same as strippers spending all their money on clothes. (think about that statement)

Did either of the talent get sick on the shoot?
If not then I guess they saved a few bucks that you didn't. :1orglaugh J/K |
Good points. True for everyone. Point D is a rough one right now, Invest in CDs. The interest they pay right now isn't worth a trip to the bank. You can buy them through Scottrade. But damn, the interest isn't worth the calories for clicking on the buy button.
Waiting patiently for the Fed to get out of the bond buying business. Career counseling may be good too. I bet aging porn stars would be great real estate and sales people. |

I don't know...
Most people don't really NEED health insurance the way it is being done now. I never had health insurance until I was 40 years old. I can't imagine young girls (or guys) even thinking twice about health insurance. Of course these days...the scam is that everybody HAS to have health insurance. The medical industry (pharma, doctors, hospitals) have raised the prices of everything many times what any other country on Earth pays. So now, instead of having a modest health insurance policy for a catastrophe...you end up paying for "insurance" every time you go to the doctor or get a prescription. Every time we have even went to the doctor when we had the fucking flu...it went on my insurance. :( It's a total ripoff. The govt. should stop the price gouging by the Corporations that own hospitals and Big Pharma and get things back to the way they were for most of my life: People could AFFORD to go to the damn doctor without insurance. |

That shit still sells even now! Get a hot woman in her 50's, 60's, and even 70's ("hot" being a relative term) who will fuck young studs...and it's money in the bank. |
Do we want to impose personal responsibility on people or not? Tough call maybe.
|
Kayden has some good advice, but the stock market things might be a little off. Most people who open a Scottrade account and buy stocks on their own are likely to lose money. If you know how the market works, do some homework and, like she says, are in it for the long haul, it can work out, but putting someone with no experience or knowledge into that seems like a recipe for disaster.

My family never had health insurance. I never had health insurance. The thousands of guys in the bands working for the same agencies I worked for in the 1980's and 1990's didn't have health insurance. People simply paid out of pocket (yes even hospital stays). It's when the govt. brought in HMO's that cost suddenly skyrocketed. And it seems like the more people that have "insurance" (that name doesn't even fit anymore..."insurance" is supposed to be something to INSURE you against a catastrophe) the more that going to the doctor and prescription medication costs are rising. I know I'm ranting...but goddamn. How long are people going to accept the hard anal fucking we are getting by the govt. big pharma, the medical industry, and the insurance companies? |
Your missing the point Robbie, some of these girls make $20k a month, a lot more than you or I made in my 20's. If they had insurance they would not have to beg when they fell off the bed hurting their cocks or pussies...

LOL this is funny..
Was it a real Hermes? |
They would not know the difference, probably someone came into the club and sold it or a fan sent it to them.

So a young person doesn't need it these days, but everything is so expensive that they need it? Anyway, it's not about doctors visits. My preferred doctor does not accept any health insurance and I have continued to pay him $130/mo. out of pocket. It is about accidents, major illnesses, hospitalization and prescription benefits in case you ever develop something that requires a lifelong medication regimen. But I guess if I thought people cannot easily get HIV (currently 1 out of every 287 people confirmed to have it in the US), Hep C or anything else, I'd probably be writing equally confusing statements. |

My parents never had health insurance. You saved that money and when shit happened, you paid for it. BTW, everything is a lot cheaper when you don't have healthcare.
|
Some good advise here. Do my trading with Interactive Brokers, dirt cheap commissions. If you can hook up an HSA w high-deductible insurance, best of both worlds, turn to an IRA if not used.

this discussion about healthcare and insurance is endless, the US system is kaput, not in a working condition. In theory everyone must have insurance in order for such a system to work. If I was a 20 yo making 20K each week, sure i'd be saving some of that but i would not be worried about healthcare insurance or any other insurance for that matter. |
Robbie, I know a lot of people, especially young people don't bother paying for health insurance because they are broke or just completely irresponsible. But it's really not that expensive for a single person with no dependents. I pay $184/month here for mine. I mean it hardly matters when you just have the flu or go to the doctor for strep throat or something or a minor injury.
But imagine you break a bone or suffer numerous injuries in an accident or get a serious treatable illness that needs a hospital stay or develop a survivable but chronic medical issues that you have to get semi-regular doctor visits and medicine for. That could bankrupt you. Medical insurance is relatively cheap insurance against losing everything and going into long term debt if one of those conditions happens. |
So, $1,300 * 12 = $15,600
You spend that for basically nothing and you are going to make fun of talent for having thought of something more enjoyable to spend their money on than nothing? Or, to put it another way, you are appalled at the talent's crappy 22% rate on a car loan, but you are willing to spend $15k for what is probably less than $5 worth of healthcare per year. So your rate is effectively 300%+, which seems worse than the 22% you would know not to pay. I think a lot of Kayden's article, which you pasted in, is good advice. |

I am confused .. Do porn girls make a lot of money? |
Amelia G. you are ridiculous, recently my wife broke her ankle while traveling close Shanghai. Our insurance covered air medivac out to Shanghai, First class upgrade airfare back to USA, ankle surgery at the Foot and Ankle Surgery Center at Cedars Sinai, (same as the Los Angeles Lakers use), rehab, total cost = $68,968 surgeons cost $13,500 Nice trade off for 15k. Our deductible $500. It sure beats begging to have industry people pay for that. I speak from experience. BTW after 4 years the talent could of bought a second car with the interest paid.. hmm makes sense. I will lend you money any day at 22%.

From reading the replies here it sounds like half the people on this forum have no idea how health insurance works or what the purpose of having insurance in general is. I mean the government forces all drivers to have auto insurance by law and under penalty and many people still often refuse to get it. Never mind health, life, homeowner, renter, business or other common insurances that are often elective.
I guess that's why we constantly see all these pleas for donations by regular people out in the world as well as people in porn via Facebook who suffered accidents or surprise illnesses and sick children or lost homes or property due to floods and other natural disasters and lost tools and equipment. Also widows or widowers with minor dependents left behind broke when a spouse dies with no money to even pay for the funeral. Business owners that have to fold up shop and lay people off because of burglaries or accidents. It's endless the amount of times I see people pleading for help and donations on Facebook and forums because they didn't plan ahead or foolishly thought that nothing bad could happen to them. They're called accidents for a reason people! Anyone could get cancer tomorrow. If you have failed to plan for a rainy day or unforeseen circumstances you have planned to fail! |
Thank you Jim Gunn for explaining it, plain and simple,,

I paid out of pocket for my heart surgery some years back. Sucked, but I did some math and discovered that if I had used COBRA and gotten on a plan from my previous employer I would have paid even more and still been stuck with out of pocket expenses. It makes you sad when a doctor casually says lets get another MRI when it's multiple thousands of dollars out of your pocket. We had a real chance to have single payer and the Dem's wussed out and caved. Really needs to be revisited if we want insurance to go down. And please don't say if it was left to the free market it would go down. We know it doesn't.

I just bought an air-ambulance policy that pays for an air ambulance to evacuate me out of a questionable hospital while I am travelling domestically or internationally if I am seriously ill and bring me to a hospital near home, a qualified university or speciality hospital -- this is an intensive care air-ambulance with medical personnel paid for -- the premium is $225 a year. |
Not having health insurance in this business is a dangerous game

Most people don't vacation in rural China and require first class plane tickets home. Presumably you don't have that kind of bizarre occurrence most years either. I'm not really interested in borrowing at 22% like the talent you mentioned or at the 300% you pay. I can do basic math, thanks. So you pay $15,600 every year because you are risk-averse yet you don't save any of your money, so you don't keep $68,968 on hand, even though you can afford the dollar premium of $15,600 every year. Let's do some basic second grade addition here: I'm assuming you are not a college student. So let's say you've been paying in for 20 years. $15,600 * 20 = $156,000. Let's not even add in the opportunity cost of not being able to use that money for business or even risk free bonds. Say most years you spend $4,000 on medical and then you had this one anomalous year of call it $75,000. $4,000 * 19 = $76,000. $76,000 + $75,000 = $151,000 So you paid $312,000 plus whatever that money could have earned for $151,000 worth of healthcare. |
Quote:
$15,600 * 10 = $156,000 $15,600 * 20 = $312,000 If you've only been paying in for 10 years, however, I'd expect the yearly average to be much less than $4k. Even if it were $4k per year, however: $4,000 * 9 = $36,000. $36,000 + $75,000 = $112,000 So, with 10 years of pay-in, you paid $156,000 plus whatever that money could have earned for $151,000 worth of healthcare and then only with the freakish need for first class airfare from China for a mere broken ankle. |

I was thinking about this thread this morning really while I was still in bed. Owning a Mercedes here in the US thirty years ago was a huge accomplishment. Ironically, I remember my doctor having one and he was the ONLY one who had one. Now... The local Mercedes deal is running an add to "lease pre owned Mercedes" - not buy, but lease. ANYONE can afford a Mercedes. Hell, if I stop going to Starbucks I could afford to buy an "extra" Mercedes at $250 a month.
[QUOTE=JP-pornshooter;19778779]first time ever i think you have posted something this libertarian, you are typically a follower/organizer of the "group". /QUOTE] People on GFY think they know me and can read me like a book. I believe Zimmerman was guilty as sin not because he was white or hispanic or because the kid was black; I wear hoodies too and I don't want to be shot to death because I was walking down the street in my own neighborhood. I just believe in common sense. |

I agree that the tax-deductible nature of insurance is just corporate welfare for that industry. The deductions still don't help you if you never need the insurance. At the very least, the math problem becomes more complex, if the margin you need is the amount of your tax bracket percentage. Probability theory was invented by gamblers and insurance companies. Insurance in America is a for-profit industry. The house always wins. The probability is that you will spend more than you get. Experts in this, who make a lot of money, generally self-insure -- for example, companies like PriceWaterhouseCoopers. |
