How Much Are You Folks Paying For your wordpress sites?

If you run nothing but wordpress sites with 10k traffic or more, how much is it costing you to run smooothly?

Do you need 8 gig memory? SSD? tnxxx

sandman! 09-12-2013 01:56 PM

depends is it 10k a day on 1 site ? 10 sites ? 100 sites ? how many plugins ? what plugins ?

there is alot more then just traffic #'s to figure out what you need.

Manfap 09-12-2013 02:33 PM

how well is your wp site optimized. Cached. clean db etc?

I run that on a €10 VPS 1GB ram, under 1 second for wordpress sites to load.

Panty Snatcher 09-12-2013 03:56 PM

i am running at diploy.net. I can run a new install in the blink of an eye :)

mikesouth 09-12-2013 04:24 PM

Im doing considerably more traffic than that daily just on mikesouth.com. I have other sites on the server as well Its not a majorly expensive server talk to M3 the guys there can set you up reasonably.

SSD is not required at all but 8GB may be a bit low but the real deciding factor will be your own WP implementation. video, pictures, all that stuff make a difference.

I run from a small VPS (check sig), several vhosts, about 10 blogs, some TGP's, two tubes,... loads of visitors....

If setup right (both the server and the wordpress blog), you don't need an expensive host...

Yeah, plus they fucking disabled the database and told me to fix it before they would turn it back on, which was impossible because of the way I 'broke' it, so they turned it back on after a month of me complaining that I need the database on to fix the problem, only to bill me again for another month.. :(

Mojohost dedicated is much better. ;)

sandman! 09-12-2013 11:33 PM

well yea i would have probably suspended you for running 50 wp sites on a $10 account also :)

WP is a resource hog out of the box its one of the worst scripts out there :2 cents::2 cents:

can be configured to be better tho :)

Yeah, is there a bare bones version of WP?

I've had some networks on shared hosting with many more blogs than that.

I'm pretty sure it's because one of those blogs had 60-90,000 posts and using a missed schedule post plugin... :Oh crap

I don't know of any... But since WP is open source, there might be somebody out there that makes a bare bones version... Hard to keep it up-to-date tough :-(

You're better off installing a good caching sollution to speed things up.

I actually tought about moving away from wordpress towards textpattern a while back. Seems to serve the same amount of visitors with about 1/3rd of the server load according to some sources (granted, it was on the textpattern forum that i found these statistics).
I didn't do it in the end because i wasn't sure i would be able to convert my current sites without to much downtime.

sandman! 09-13-2013 01:14 AM
