Obama To Labor Unions With Multi-Employer Health Plans: Drop Dead

Quote:

Well played, Mr. President.

Last week, prior to the big AFL-CIO convention in Los Angeles, President Obama personally spoke to AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka, asking him to water down several anti-Obamacare resolutions that union leaders were planning to pass there. Trumka obliged, keeping calls to repeal Obamacare out of the official AFL-CIO resolution on the health law.

Then, on Friday evening, after the convention was over, the Obama administration revealed that it would ignore unions? demands to subsidize their members using Obamacare. As a result, some unions fear that they will wither away. ?I guarantee you by your next convention four years from now, you won?t meet a quarter of this room,? said Joseph Nigro, president of the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Union. ?We won?t be here.?

Unions were seeking special treatment under Obamacare

It's very simple. We need to make a law like Hawaii has. Any employee who works 20 hours per week for four or more consecutive weeks gets full time medical coverage.

At one point Hawaii had 98% healthcare coverage. Currently it's at 92%.

Do you know if employers are starting to cap hours at 19 now?
When I was a kid the record store chain I worked in did that to avoid health costs. They eventually went out of biz.

Fine, then make another saying that if more than 60% of your employees are part time they must pay healthcare for ALL employees.

If they can't afford to pay healthcare, then they go out of business.

My wife's work has the same problem. The ONLY reason she has a job is for all of us to have healthcare. She works for a foot doctor; It's only her and the doctor. The doctor hired my wife with the promise of healthcare for the family, but once the doctor figured out how much it would cost she couldn't do it.

This seems to be working in Hawaii.

great, except one minor detail that Hawaii has the one of the highest "cost of living" and one of the lowest "home ownership %" of all the states... so it's debatable how well it's "working" for Hawaii... :2 cents:

Forcing sovereign, peaceful individuals to do X to achieve Y is always a terrible solution. *BUT*, because we've endured the branding of nationalism and the false re-branding of anarchism (living without rulers), everyone is forced to adhere to these ridiculous rules.

Tidbit: Health insurance used to be very affordable, to even the most poorest mother fuckers before government got involved.

I thought your wife had a sports gym? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. I'm not poking at you, I swear I saw you say that somewhere. Does she not have it anymore or am I mistaken?

We were looking at Hawaii before deciding on the far east. Insanely expensive and much of it looks run down and struggling. Then you have the gates and the mansions.

I hope to go soon for a visit.

American healthcare is controlled by American insurers. My wife's sister and her husband are both doctors. They both make 6 figures and serve a population that pays a fraction of what Americans pay. Americans are so "borked" over healthcare.

It was the douchebag Edgar Kaiser who buddied up with Nixon right? Healthcare went over night from non-profit to profit. Or so I have read.
