I can't hate the new NFL and College hitting rules after this video

I like to hit hard and flatten people out too, but I have to admit that I can do it without trying to break somebody's neck or crack their skull open.

So to me that's what the rule is saying : "You guys know when you're over doing it and we are going to call it now".

They show some serious hits in this video and you can see that some are just way over the top when "sportsmanship" is considered.
It's really only a basic "unnecessary roughness call" in simple football rules.

football is becoming so competitive, that if you DON'T lay someone out, you'll be off the team. its better to have over aggressive players that you can "calm down" that a bunch of Nancys who you have to yell at.

problem also is the padding is becoming increasingly better, so hits can be harder and hurt less. think of 20 years ago, do you think they would run at you full speed with that shitty plastic helmet and weak padding? no!

it's almost like we are turning into a nation that watches sports for blood... like the roman times :2 cents:

Very true. Hard to judge though. Football is a violent sport, but always has been. Its when would be tacklers launch themselves headfirst just for the big hit is what I have an issue with. Good post though. Nice work.

On the flip side of this. Players are bigger, faster and stronger than 30-40 years ago. Collisions are more violent.

Hitting a defenseless receiver in the head, taking a QB out at the knee's. I agree with these rules. Besides, it sucks shit when a game is stopped for 15 minutes while a person is transferred to a stretcher and then carted off.

The rule I can not fucking stand this year is - RB's not being able to lead with the crown of their helmet. Being from MN, I always enjoyed watching AP punish people for trying to do their job. You could actually see guys pulling up after they took a good hit or 2 from him.

They are wearing padding, why not add a tutu to the outfit to finish it off?

Pack of skirts...

20 years ago, every guy on the team wasn't pushing 300lbs either.

They should play with leather helmets, like they did back in the day. Then they'd all stop launching like a mountain goat to smash the melon of their intended target.

you believe that?

Tom_PM 09-18-2013 08:05 AM

Two high school players dead in the past month from head to head hits.

They can also get injured from trying to avoid head to head. It's going to come down to technology and new materials in the equipment. Until then every hard head hit is years off a good life basically.

I believe a few players getting ILLEGAL money is not enough to justify your position.

Did you ever count how many college football teams exist and try to figure out why only 5 people every five years get caught "accepting money"?
It's not routine, only a few try to cheat.

Illegal money is not pay. Pay is still 0.
