I liked Clinton a lot. Smart guy.

Gotta say though...he had an easy time with the economy because of the Internet taking off big time during his second term.
That Internet bubble really kicked ass.

Bill Clinton continues to do a tremendous amount of good work:

I'm hoping that Hillary decides to run. If she does, I plan to support her (although I'll look at all of the candidates when the time comes). :thumbsup

Curious who each of you think will be good candidates for President in 2016?

Which reminds me, I'm going to see former President Jimmy Carter next week when he is in the Bay Area on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. Amazing the energy he still has 89 years old, to try and make a positive difference in the world. :)

On the PNAC website they have the letters published which they sent to Clinton telling him to go to war with Iraq, he refused, next rather conveniently Lewinsky kicks off the potential impeachment to get him out the way :2 cents:

Clinton was the greatest president we've had in years. As intelligent as Jefferson, and got what he got by brains and drive alone.

In my book he could bang 20 girls a day if he wanted. He didn't just get lucky, he navigated the issues and avoided pitfalls. He knew when to step back and when to push.

Then Curious George came in and immediately spent 2 trillion, destroyed the surplus, destroyed our moral fiber, and paved the way for a revenge democrat, which is what we have now.

the only real issue I can see is 'lack of fidelity' ... leaders that help set and define 'social policy' should have some sense of fidelity and personal honesty.... don't you think?

JockoHomo 10-05-2013 09:50 AM

Bush was a vast improvement over Obama.

Given a choice between someone who fucked up his marriage vows and someone who fucked up the entire economy, I think this is a pretty easy call.

How many times do people need to be told: The HOUSING CRASH destroyed the economy.
Not George Bush.

How uninformed can people continue to claim to be when this has been said over and over and over?

GregE...please get educated on what happened in 2007/2008 and why it happened.
CONGRESS for the last couple of decades were the ones who passed bills that caused the housing crash. Not Clinton, not Bush, and not Obama.

An informed citizenry is what is sorely lacking in our country.

Yeah right :1orglaugh

It's like this, whether renting out a property or voting for a president, I've always made my personal assessments based on what the place looked like after the occupant moved out.

You're right about congress laying much of the groundwork for the financial collapse, but you're forgetting the impact of two unfunded wars on the very same deficit that the baggers are now soiling their pants over.

And let us not forget that Bush actually inherited a budget surplus.

I agree with you 1000% on the wars. They are illegal and cost us our surplus.

But they have nothing to do with the economy collapsing.
The economy collapsed when the housing market crashed. Period.

The whole imperialist United States govt. attacking, invading, and occupying other countries illegally is a whole other discussion. And I think you are spot on with your feelings about that.

Actually Clinton helped, he signed the repeal of Glass–Steagall in commodities modernization act. Which is what truly caused the mess, it let wall st take the gambling to whole new level. Then Nafta which helped kill a lot of the manufacturing that were left. Then got bush cutting taxes and going to war. It was a bipartisan effort. lol

Robbie, dude, you are a smart guy and much respect to you, but George Bush did fuck up the country. He should have:

1. Stayed the course and paid down the debt instead of restructuring the tax code to benefit the wealthy.
2. Not fomented a 2 trillion war with Iraq based on false information.
3. Not authorized and advocated for the use of torture.
4. Not created a shadow justice system.
5. Not enacted policies that posit that the electorate "does not know what is good for it"

I don't care if he believed he was doing good. Ignorance, however plentiful it may be, is not an excuse. Everything he did is now being used by the Dems, including Guantanamo, drones, wiretapping, etc.

my understanding is Bush didn't want to allow the subprime loans etc but was pressured by 'special interest/congress' to let the chips fall...

the gop controlled everything until 2007. It was already falling off the cliff.

I know he fucked us up by escalating the imperialistic nature of the Federal Govt.

Invading other countries, etc.

But that isn't what brought the economy down at all.

It was the housing market crash that destroyed the economy. Like dominoes falling.

Bush definitely fucked up when he invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. I think history will look back on what the U.S. has been doing since WW2 in a very, very bad way.

Couple of weeks ago on "Real Time", Bill Maher ran off a list of countries that we have bombed and killed people in since the end of WW2 (which was the last real "war" that we ever fought...we haven't declared "War" on any country since then).

The list and the numbers of people we have killed are downright horrible. :(

And Bush cheerleaded us right into Afghanistan AND Iraq.

But don't forget: The Democrats were right there with him in the beginning. You can go to YouTube and find all of them making speeches saying that Iraq had WMD's and we needed to invade and take him out...including Hillary, Pelosi, Reid as well as the Republicans.

But the economy collapsing is what we are talking about now.

And if it's just the deficit that caused it (it wasn't), then we would be in a much worse collapse now
I'm looking at Treasury Dept. figures
U.S. National Debt 2009: 11,909,829,003,511.75
U.S. National Debt 2012: 16,066,241,407,385.89

And I saw on the news today that it's closing in on 17 trillion this year (2013)

No, the debt didn't destroy the economy (that may come later)...the housing market did. That's just an economic fact.
